 New Strain of Parvo

I tried to find a recent article about it, but all I found was an e-ml chain letter going out telling people it’s the apocalypse for the pet dog and that the e-ml, itself, was a hoax - as well as another one in Feb about a vet confirming a new strain of parvo, but saying it’s not as bad as owners are making it out to be.

So yeah, I can’t find an August news letter or blog about what I’m bringing up, but there is an actual new parvo virus going around. I saw a broadcast on the news two or three weeks ago about it, and then a second saying that the local humane society shelter (near my area, in case you’re wondering on the legitimacy of this) had to be closed down and all adoptions stopped. Some new parvo outbreak happened, contaminated the dogs in the shelter, even those who already had their shots, and a day after the dogs crapped blood, they died - which is supposedly much quicker than any normal previous version of parvo. Honestly, I don’t know, I’ve never experienced the disease nor do I intend to.

Now everyone in my area is on high alert around walks, some dog parks were temporarily closed, and people were advised that the virus/disease can be transmitted through simply smelling an infected dog’s crap.

As far as I know, there haven’t been any more words from the shelter.

Does anyone know anything about this? What are your thoughts?

 New Strain of Parvo

Parvo is such a horrible thing to go through!!! My two puppys recently got it and one of them didnt make it. I cant even descirbe just how horrible it is. I have heard about the new strain of it, mine didnt get it, but I have heard of it. Iv heard that with the new strain of it that theres alot of blood in the vomit and the feces. And its very hard to get over it. Im so thankful that mine didnt get the new strain, the one that lived almost died from the old strain!

 New Strain of Parvo

My thought is this, Parvo is a virus just like the flu, virus tend to adapt and change... hence why there are quite a few flu strains out there, so it honestly does not surprise me if there is a new strain of parvo, what does concern me is them getting a vaccine that is for the new strain, if its a mutated strand the old vaccine is likely to not work due to it being the old parvo...

 New Strain of Parvo

I have heard something similar, but it has been going around for a long time. From what I heard about it, it is actually not a new strain of Parvo, but does test positive on a parvo test. It is called "show dog crud". I came across it when I lost a litter of puppies that died of unknown causes. I don’t remember much about it right off hand, but I found it on a few different sites by doing a google search for it.

 New Strain of Parvo

I have...

about 2 months ago our town had a parvo outbreak, our town is very small causing something like parvo to spread very quickly 3 dogs who had their shots died and about 6 puppies. I dont know if is the new strain or what but those poor dogs that i saw brought in to the vet where suffering terrible but thanks to our vet out of 13 dogs who caught it he manage to cure a few...parvo is the worst thing to see happen to a dog when it is in the advanced stage.
