I can’t believe this; makes me so angry!

Here’s an ad in our area on craigslist:

Quote:

Free yellow lab. 8 months old. Very friendly with people and other dogs. I can not take the chewing anymore. If someone does not take him this weekend I will have to drop him off in a distant town and hope he gets found by someone who can give him a home. I can’t afford any more damage to my clothes or furniture. Call me at ********** if you want him.

So they’re just going to abandon him?! Maybe I can talk my mom in2 temporarily holding him for a week or 2 ;-)

I took in a litter of puppies from the guy behind me, since they kept going under the fence and coming to my house anyways. I had them vetted and started socializing them (they were never touched by people until I got them at 6 wks) I had people lined up to take them. There was a contract, standard spay/neuter, keep vet care done, no chains, if you have to get rid of them I am to be contacted first. Out of 6 puppies, I got 2 returned in less than a week. The first one was returned because he wasn’t housebroke and was chasing the cat. The second one was returned because she was too hyper. People are just so lazy anymore. My german shepherd ate all my furniture one night. It made me angry, but I didn’t pawn him off on someone else.

Thats quite sick that someone is capable of dropping there dog off in a distant town and hope for the best for it it is people like that that do not deserve to be pet owners as it is obvious they cannot train there dog and that they can just abandon him/her that just goes to show that they have no love for there pets

I use to live out in the country. I can not count how many animals were dropped of to fend for them selves . We took in 5 cats , one was very pregnant . My son would find dogs all the time . We would try to find them homes . Most of them did get homes but some had to be taken to the animal shelter .One year my ex and I were ridding on his motorcycle through Tar Hollow State Forest . We found 6 tiny puppies abandoded , all malnurished and with a bad case of mange . I carried all of them in my shirt back home .I cryied the whole way back.We had to put them down.

We need tougher laws to protect animals .

No, what we NEED is to start holding people responsible for thier actions.

We ALREADY have laws on the books that protect animals.

We don’t need someone legislating MORE laws, telling people what they can and cannot do, but rather we need to enforce the laws we already have.

IMO, because of situations like that where people just abandon dogs, I believe it should be a law that all pups and dogs MUST be microchipped. This way for situations where a dog has been left or dropped, we CAN enforce those laws and someone is held responsible and charged. Microchipping should be the same as licensing...it should be mandatory. It would also help get more lost dogs back home and help to cut down on canine theft. Licensing a neuterd/spayed in my town is $7, in tact is $14. A microchip is $14 at my vet and it’s $24.99 a year to activate and maintain. Not a huge expense. All my girls are microed in addition to their license and ID tags. You can never be too careful.
