 ARGH!

My siberian husky just went into heat about a week ago, and I had he in the house all the time except when I let her out to pee, but I always watched.

Well, my mom got mad because she peed in the house and put her outside. When I came home from school, I saw her and my pit mix(fixed female) outside with this other dog. I don’t know the dog, and it was just some stupid mutt. It ran away when it saw me. I’ve seen this dog before, and know nothing about it exept it’s a mutt, looks to be adult, and I’ve never been able to get close to it.

So the husky is ten months old, and this is her first heat cycle. She’s not fixed because I want to take her to dog shows.

So after arguing with my mom about how stupid and irresponsible that was, I called the vet and she said that we would have to wait 35 days to tell if she’s pregnant, and they don’t do dog abortions.

So what do you think the chances are that she’s pregant? If she is, is it dangerous to have the babies? I mean, I’m sure it wouldn’t be good for her, but would it kill her?

Was the stray a male? Did you see if it was nueterd if it was a male? If it was she could quite possibly be pregnant. I dont mean to sound horrible but your mum should have had some common sense - a male dog can sense a female dog in heat at least a mile away & its her fault the dog pee’d as she obviously hadnt let it out in awhile. And if your mum cant keep an eye on her then perhaps she should just be spayed, a male will try and mate with a female dog evan if she isnt in heat, so technically the Husky needs to be watched 24/7!
Some fenale dogs can die during labour and afterwards.

I don’t know. I’ve never been able to get close enough to it. I’ve seen this dog a lot, and I don’t really know if it’s a stray or just some escaped pet. Both of my dogs used to be aggressive towards it whenever they saw it pass by, but I guess they don’t mind it anymore. This is the first time I know of that it actually came in.

And yes, I was furious with her. It was stupid, and I fought with her for a long time about it. I’ve given her some links to look at and she seems to understand how easily an accident like that could happen. She has sworn to be more careful, and to leave Cody(the dog) to me until she’s out of her heat cycle.

So it seems that she’s stopped bleeding today, and it’s been about a week and a half since she started. Her vulva and nipples are still swollen, and she’s still being really clingy ever since she started this.

I always watch this dog, and I’m really really protective of her while she’s in heat. If she turns out to be pregnant, I will do absolutely everything I can for her. I’ll feed her special food and she can go to the vet regularly and I made my mom promise she could get a C-section if she needed one.

I’m worried sick that she’s pregnant, as this is my first unspayed female dog, and first experience with a heat cycle. I don’t really know how long they’re supposed to bleed for or how much it varies. Is a week and a half complete?

My old dog was a Rott she was my first experience at a cycle she lasted almost 3weeks were as my parents choco Lab she was a whole month, so i think it just varies on the dog.
Your dogs may still not like this stray but at some point during a female on heat she will want to mate with any male dog that passes her weather its a full pedigree or a mangy mutt, she just wont care! Some females have been known to escape to find a male dog to mate with so not only should you keep an eye on male dogs but also on your female!

I wish you all the best though :)

hopefully she wont be, most females wont stand until day 12 which is when they start to get fertile, but beware they can get caught right up to the last day. my oldest girl is under house arrest during her season, my youngest has’nt had hers yet (8 months). you should ask a vet if she can get the jab. my friend was out walking her dog late at night when a dog came out of no where and proceeded to mate with her, my friend could’nt get him away as he was aggressive and the owner appeared and did’nt even say sorry!
she phoned the vet in the morning to get the jab, it brings the girl back into season

 ARGH!

Well I guess my mom is trying harder. Cody tried to get out and my mom sprained her fingers trying to stop her.

Anyways. I got a better look at this dog, and I think I saw some balls. I know it’s male for sure, and maybe it’s unfixed, it’s hard to say. This dog is MASSIVE. I think it’s a GSD x Malamute x Rottweiler. He’s not aggressive, and def. more afraid of us than anything.

Cody’s vulva and nipples are still swollen, and she’s still being more affectionate towards me, but she’s not bleeding for sure. I’m just a bit concenred about it. It only lasted a week and a half, and she did get out with this shepherd mix.

What I’ve been doing is taking her out on a leash(A lead rope for horses actually, because she tries so hard to get away) and I put her into a secure run for a while because she really hates to be inside. I check on her through a window every so long, and that stupid mutt is hanging around RIGHT OUTSIDE the kennel.

We’re thinking about just calling animal control. I really hate to do it, because I’m afraid it won’t get a home/get found by it’s owners and I’ll have just put a dog to it’s doom.

 ARGH!

Have you considered putting a diaper on your dog? It’ll be a short and very quick fix to the problem. Then plan piss times and one or two walk times to day to empty the dog.

I know a few breeders that diaper their dogs when in heat and it is a very safe prevention method. It also prevents blood from getting into your carpets.

Right now your female dog is probably going mad at the male spraying the area. And the mutt is going insane because he’s all out horny towards the female.

One way to tell if the dogs were actually at it in courtship was if they’re bound together by the genitals. When in full sex mode, the male will ’connect with the female’ then readjust his bits so he’s facing away from her - but still fastened tight. So it looks like both dogs are facing opposite directions with their butts together. This is a trait picked up from the wild to protect them from dangers - so they aren’t left completely vulnerable. The downside is that they’re literally stuck together for anywhere from a few minutes to thirty minutes. So if they were actually in copulation and you caught them at it, the male would have been trying to escape and dragging the female behind him for a time before he was even remotely able to disconnect.

Here is a picture to show what I mean.

If this was simple humping, there’s a good chance that nothing came through - though your female dog could be having a false pregnancy.

I believe there’s a test out there that vets can use to tell if your dog was ovulating at the time of her meeting with the mutt. However it’s something you would’ve had to have done on the same day or day after the incident happened. There should theoretically also be a test out there to tell you around what days your dog will be most likely to ovulate, though.

Lastly, should your dog actually have a puppy fetus in her, I know that there should be at least one vet in the yellowpages that will do a pre-puppy abortion for you. If not, then I’m sure the shelter can assist you in the matter - since they don’t want more puppies after all. Since your dog is under a year old, it’s even more likely that someone will be able to help you abort the puppies for her health. You shouldn’t be forced to put such a pressure on your dog.

And yes, call animal control over the mutt. Then hose down any trees or items he could have pissed on outside of the fence area.

Umm Question,

Will a female dog still go into heat after it’s been spayed?

 ARGH!

This question confuse’s me!

When a female is spayed she cannot have babies nor does she go into heat, she may have a phantom pregnancy afterward’s which is very common and/or she may act the way she did when she had a season (she may have been very affectiomate, protective, aggressive etc). I hope that is what answer’s you were looking for.

Cody seems like she’s okay. I don’t think she’s pregnant. She also never got away long enough to have tied(is that what it’s called?) with the male. She can’t dig under, because I put the run on cement for that reason.

I’ve tried the diaper, but I can’t find one big enough for her. I do take her out to pee and I take her on walks daily.

I don’t think she had time to get stuck with the male. And if I can find a place that does dog abortions, than I’ll do it. I’d much, much rather do that than have poor Cody have to bare puppies.

I haven’t seen the male in a few days. If he comes back, I’ll call animal control.

 ARGH!

Here’s a website that’s selling dog diapers and telling you how to measure your dog for them via size. It takes a bit of scrolling. You don’t have to buy from them, but you can at least get the full measurements of your dog and know what size best fits it. There are many websites out there selling dog diapers of appropriete size. You can additionally go to a Petsmart and request they order one for you, provided you ask for the right size.

Link

And yeah, it’s called tieing. The term didn’t come to my mind earlier ^^`
