 Scottish Terrier pictures YAAAAAAY SCOTTIES!

Just took these pictures earlier today.

---Meet my Scotties---

http://www.repticzone.net/images/70530/dolly.jpg
Dolly is the oldest. She will be 9 this April and suffering from cancer in the lymph nobes. Its stage 5 (passed the point of curing her) so the only thing we can do is give her prednisone to help her feel better as our vet instructed us. We call her "The Dolly Lama Mamma" (lol).

Jack is the second to oldest. He will be 5 in June. He isn’t a westie (westies do not have that long of a muzzle). He is a scottish terrier like dolly but his color is wheaton. We wanted to breed dolly with a scottie that has a wheaton coat in hopes to get some pups with the same coat. (Did not happen.) It was very hard to find a scottish terrier breeder in Illinois that has wheaton colored scotties. When we did find one, it was a 100 mile trip south (one way) to pick Jack up.

This is Blue-ee. He is definitely a scottish terrier, but a bad gene showed up in him and made his legs longer than normal. Even though he’s got AKC pedigree papers, this dog is DEFINITIALY not show quality. His color is called marble because of the different markings on his body. (I’ll show you a picture of his back some other date.) He is the biological son from Dolly’s and Jack’s last litter. He got his name because when the pups are born we immediately put different colored collars on them (use embroidery threads) to keep track of the pups with who got their shot, who didn’t, who is underweight, who is not, all the way down to which one was born at what time. (Kept a journal of notes.) Obviously Blue-ee had the blue colored collar. We weren’t stuck with him when his brothers and sisters were sold; we kept him because we were just that attached to him. (Got him fixed though so he doesn’t decide to make pups with mama lol). Blue-ee just turned 3 December 5th 2009.

---Other pictures---

Jack on the left, Dolly on the right. (Dolly doesn’t like cameras.)

Blue-ee left, Jack middle, Dolly right. Picture would have come out more clearly but it’s impossible to keep Blue-ee still for more than 10 seconds. I had to press the button quick before he moved again.

Ah there real sweet :) my grandparents from my mums side live in Scotland but its strange as you never see any Aberdeen Terriers there and only a handful of Westhighland whites evan though they are native to Scotland. Despite Jack is cream colour you can still see he isnt a Westie there is a big difference in apperance between the two breeds :)

Thankyou HerpsinIN for the help!

Yeah we take good care of our dogs. But they need to be groomed on a regular basis. (Thier fur gets really long and grows fast) Dolly herself is old and sick (cancer) but the medicine helps her feel better.

Wow Ghastly . . . if only you were at my place when my folks and I were selling the pups from Jack’s littler. When we showed Jack to a buyer, (we do that so the buyers know who the parents are) the lady kept insisting that he’s a westie. It was pretty agrivating considering that Jack went through 3 blood tests and each one showed up that he is deffinitialy a scottie and we had to travel 100 miles one way to pick him up from the breeder we got him from.

Wel if the people really knew a Westie than they would realise that the Wests face is "broader" and there fur grows out wereas the Aberdeens grows down. But hey if they really knew a Westies apperance than they wouldnt of argued with you! Gosh 200miles is along way but on saying that i have done i also :)

That and Westies look like white Carin Terriers not Scotties. Some people just don’t know their breeds. Westies actually came from Carin Terriers, they were bred to be white because the hunters kept mistaking their red Carins for foxes and shooting them, so a hunter decided to breed his Carins to be white and came up with the West Highland Terrier. I think the Scottie may have been one of the breeds used in the making, but then again I could be wrong.

I heard of that story why westies were made white on dogs 101. (Animal planet is my favorite channel.)
As far as Scottish Terriers go, all I know is they were used to chase vermin out of the fields and barns for farmers. The animals they chased were anywhere from mice to badgers and even foxes. With our first litter from our first pair (Maggie and Fred) a farmer who owned Shire horses baught a scottie from us to keep rats out of the horses’ featherd hooves.

Dogs 101 is a good show for people who want to learn more about breeds. they don’t tell you everything though. I still had to read tons of books on Rottweilers and even did a research paper on them to learn as much as possible. I am still learning.
