 Help identify breed...

I need help identifying what kind of breed this cute puppy is. He is very playful and likes to bite a lot. Everyone says that he looks like a mix, but no one knows between what. A few have said he looks like he might have pit bull in him. What do you guys think? Thanks for any input.

Hmm...I have rescued, bred, and raised Pits all my life...and I’m not seeing Pit in that pup. It may show in "life", but in this photo I’m not seeing it. From this photo, I’m guessing 6 different double breeds (half and half)none of which are Pit...That’s just from this pic though so anything is still a possibility. Do you have a standing upright pic and one of his face with better backing (lighter so I can see the shape of his head and jaw muscle) Are his ears trying to stand or flop? If you play tug of war with him, how does his body move when he pulls?
It’s always a lot easier to see breed distinction when they’re a bit older. 5 1/2-8 months is when breed characteristics become more obvious in most mixed dogs where niether breed characteristic dominates over the other. For example, I got my dog Bear when he was 8wks old. He looked like a pure bred Newfoundland puppy. When he was 6 months old, he looked exactly what he was, Sheperd/Pit completely opposite of what he looked like when he was between 2 and 4 1/2 months. The possibilities are endless though...mom or dad or both could have been crosses themselves. Those extra pics may help though.

Maybe a little bernese mountain dog. He’s not as shaggy as one of those pups are, but he has the colors, not the pattern, though.

Here are some more pictures of the puppy. I hope they help, but I will probably just wait until he is older and then post up some more pics. Anyhow, when I play tug of war with other dogs, I can easily pull the toy away from them. However, I noticed that this dog has an incredibly strong jaw. He will lock onto the toy and not let go. I usually give in and let him have it. When he is tugging at something his body position looks like the one in the pic of him near the food bowl. For a puppy, he is pretty strong. He can even drag a giant stuff animal that is about five times bigger than him. Even I think the stuff animal is kind of heavy. Or maybe that’s only because I’m a wimpy girl. lol.

Now that I got some great angle pics to check out I can safely say no Pit. Any dog that has Pit in it has very prominent jaw muscle that gives the head a more rounded beefy appearance. For now as young as he is, I’ll say he looks like a Sheperd/Border Collie for one half and half guess. Like I said though, when he gets older you’ll notice more breed specific traits and you’ll get a better Idea of what his mix or mixes are. Just keep an open mind about it because like I said, mom and dad could very well have been mutts themselves. All in all, you got the best breed...the "Any" breed...lol they’re full of surprises! Good luck and don’t forget about those pics when he’s older on here!

I don’t know if all puppies do this, but...this puppy tends to go after people’s feet. LOL. I don’t know if the previous owner trained him to do that or what, but I read some stuff on Aussie cattle dogs on the internet and it says that aussie cattle puppies sometimes nip at people’s heels in an attempt to herd them. LOL. You guys just might be right on this one.

Any herding dog will do that. Aussies, Borders, Sheep dogs, etc...I’ve even had Pit, Husky and Rottie pups do it...lol. You’ll get a better idea as time goes by...Mutt are some of the best behaved dogs though...you just don’t hear as much because they’re mutts. He’s definately a cutie though...looks like some nice sized paws there too...lol.

This is my second puppy ever so I don’t know much about dogs and why some nip at people’s feet. The whole herding thing makes a lot of sense now. Boy, did that piss a lot of people off. lol. The puppy went after everyone’s feet and they couldn’t understand why. I was a little freaked out at first too. I was like, uh did I step on dog food or something smelly? Is the dog smelling that? lol.

Yes, she doese resemble an Australian Cattle Dog. She also resembles a Smooth Coated Collie. She is probably a shepard though. She is adorable!

I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that is an Invisi-Fence collar right Monnie?

I was gonna say, I hope that isn’t a shock collar.

I see some austrailian shephard and maybe border collie. His feet aren’t big enough to be a bermese mountain dog. Mostly Aussie for me though, my favorite breed ever.

I think he has Cattle dog, some border collie and either rotty or shep mix in the mix as well. He has the pattern for shep/rotty. And his face looks like Auss. Cattle dog to me. But not Bermese Mount. Dog. He’d be way bigger.

My boyfriend was the one who got the collar thing, but on the box it says that it is for training dogs. Of course, we don’t shock the puppy. We only use the warning button which gives out a sound, when the puppy barks a lot during the night.

Cosmo I disagree with it being a mix of a Rottie or Shepard if you mean German... Aussie Shepard maybe but definately not a Burnese Mtn Dog. As for the Invisifence never tried it myself but the shocking collar is no different then an electric wire around the top of a horse pen..sends off a feeling of static electricity...doesnt hurt the dog just startles them more then anything. Anywho cute dog any which way you look at it
