Here are a few pictures of my dog, Gizmo, as a puppy. He is now about three and thouse oictures were taken when he was about 8 weeks old. He was so cute and still is.

As you may guess he is a Jack Russel. You will never see him like the first picture today. He is just a ball of energy.

They normally are...lol.
Here’s my girl. Her name is Tabitha, a Sib. Husky/Germ. Sheperd mix. I’ve had her for 16 years (she’s rescued), since she was 4, she turned 20 years on April 16th and has almost the same amount of energy still as a Russell believe it or not.

At 4 Years, the day she came home...

June 14th of this year at 20 years...

Here are my babies. Emma was dumped as a puppy on my Mom’s doorstep and Sinatra was a rescue.

I still can’t get over how much that dog looks like Lambchop...lol. That was such a perfect, fitting name!
I love Sinatra! He is BEAUTIFUL! Did you get him from a Dane Rescue or a General Rescue? My husband and I were talking and he may let me get a Harlequin (if I can find one in a shelter or rescue) when we get our new home next year, along with a Pit (that’s a definate) and maybe a Rottie or Rottie/Sheperd mix. Tabitha needs some friends...she’s too old to be lonely.

Yes Sinatra is from a Great Dane rescue. There is a beautiful Harlequin at the Charleston Dane rescue right now. Where do you live? There are some good ones all over. The only thing with Danes is they often have separation anxiety issues and want to be part of the human family as much as possible. Sinatra paces all day until I get home from work and doesn’t leave my side when I get there. He is wonderful with my children and was from the day we got him, even though he was not well taken care of at his previous homes. As long as you have love to give and proof your house for a tall dog, you will be fine. We have locks on all cabinets and the fridge/freezer. There is nothing they cannot reach. There are a lot of Danes in rescue so I think that is great you are thinking about getting one.

Yeah I hear ya about proofing. I’ve had some large dogs, not quite as large as a Dane, but very close. I ran a rescue myself, mostly for Pits, but I couldn’t turn down a candidate for euthanasia at the shelter. If the dogs time was up there and they had no choice, I gave them one. I took in a St. Bernard, a Landseer, an Old English Mastiff and many large breed mixes. They were mostly outside, but we would bring in those I considered quick adopts indoors for periods during the day to have them accustomed to all different types of indoor activity and do’s and don’ts before going up for immediate adoption, since what may have went on in their previous home would more than likely be a lot different. In doing that they would get aquainted with all different situations that may take place inside a home. "Baby Dog" proofing was the one thing that was always the challenge. As you know, large dogs feel invincable and know they have the power to open and get into things, so many would persist in trying to open a cabinet/fridge/door regardless of proofing so I would train for prevention of that in their new home.
I’m not looking right now for any breed. I’m going to wait until I’m in my home home and settle before adding any more stress to myself and family and of course Tabitha. More than likely it will be 8 months to a year after I am in my home before I start my search for any new dog from any rescues. I find myself stressed and heartbroken if I begin looking and can’t go and get them.

Yes, it is hard to not take them all in. I find that Sinatra is pretty good unless he feels like he is not getting the attention he deserves. The first week we got our chameleon, he got into the freezer, trash, you name it. Well I hope you get a dane once you are settled....they are awesome dogs, especially for a family.
