Baby Squirrels I am fostering 4 baby squirrels that go blew out of their tree during a wind storm last week. Some lady brought them to the shelter I volunteer at and the person who runs the shelter said I can take them home to foster. They will be released once they are grown up and able to care for themselves.
My question is though, whenever they are sleeping in their nest sometimes they will suck on the boys "parts". This causes swelling and clogging of the urinary area. Is there a way to detour them from doing this? I put a warm washcloth on it until the clog comes off. But I want to prevent it, not just keep treating it.
They are not doing this because they are starving, they are very well fed babies.

Baby Squirrels Lol, most mammal babies have that tendency. When babies nurse, most of the time they are just latching and sucking on the nipples without actually eating. If mom isn’t there, they tend to do it to each other. We’ve found that a larger, soft, light stuffed animal does the trick usually. If that doesn’t help, you can separate the poor guy for a week or two until they grow out of it.

Baby Squirrels Thank you dragongirl6. I will do that. I also called a wildlife rahabber last night (since the person I got the babies from was unreachable all day) and asked her what to do, and she suggested to put baby thumb sucking stuff on it. It is all natural, but just tastes horrible. We havn’t had a problem yet since last night. I will also give them a stuffie though when I get home from school.
