Bear Bile 
Did anyone see the show on animal planet about this? Is in it horrible how the bear lives?
For those who do not know what this is it is when bears like the Asiatic black bear are kept in horribly small cages with a metal catheter that connects to the gull bladder so they can sell the bile for medicinal purposes.
I think it is called moon bear something

Forgot to mention that an organization called Animals Asia has been fighting to stop this for a while they have now started to buy the bears off of farmers that are giving up the trade.

TutThePlatedLizard, that comment offends me because I’m actually Asian. No, not really. I’m just being stupid.
I’ve never heard of this. I’ve heard that bears there are often "forced" to dance in order to get their master money. I watched a show on telivision where the bears had ropes that went through their noses that kept them from pulling. It looked very painful.

This to me seems way worse the only time the bear gets fed or is given water is when they are extracting the bile. They also have these things that force the bear to lay flat on their stomach to make it easier to get the bile. It just amazes me how cruel people can be.

I saw that show on Animal Planet. It was simply horrible. What’s worse is there is no need for it. There are alternatives to using animals such as bears in medicinal medicine such as honey suckle flowers. I was also amazed when I saw what was being done. It’s sickening how they treated those poor animals. If anyone wants more information about this terrible practice, this website should give you what you want.

btw, just in case there is some idgit on here who thinks the way sensho was pretending to think, i meant actual living in asia asians, not those who are of asian descent and live elsewhere. they are just horrid! they killed threatend or endangered (cant remember which) whales off japan in the name of "science" and then let the meat and other items get sold to the public. its such BS. other animals used for medicinal purposes and killed are tigers, ENDANGERED tigers! ugh

Lol, I understand. Poaching is just about as bad in Asia as it is in Africa, but the sanctuaries usually have committed staff and are very passionate in their work.

they are the exception, and are few and far between. watch any show about exotic asian foods or stores and you’ll see what i mean. the medicinal area is the biggest problem, there are people making money off of dead endangered animal parts that supposedly "heal" people. they need to adopt more laws like the US, Canada, and the UK have to protect animals. I will not be visiting Asia until some new laws are adopted and the hunting of endangered animals is more controlled.

yea, theres several programs like that in africa that seem to be helping, but i have yet to hear of one in asia... its too bad, because from what i’ve seen, they really work

they don’t even give pandas a chance. all those poachers killing endangered species, i won’t be surprised if the whole economy falls in asia because they all starve to death because they kill and eat like everything possible and that nothing wild will survive in china. i won’t be sending canned food to them.

A lot of people will kill anything, endangered or not. As soon as animals get off the endangered and threatened list it’s right back to killing them. When there are only a few hundred of something left, all the hunters and poachers go out and try to bag them one so that they can have a trophy or some meat before it’s gone completely. It’s unbelievable how stupid some people can be, leading up to the destruction of species like the American Bison and Passenger Pigeon. Today, the birds are extinct due to unlimited hunting and eradication, while the decimated buffalo holds on by the skin of its teeth. Appears that the same thing is happening now, only in a less open, underground fashion. While other countries have their issues in environmental factors, we have our own in the United States that need attending to. I believe that we need to first take care of the issues here, although those from the U.S are sometimes the only thing keeping a species from disappearing overseas.
