 What are your thoughs on the Montauk Monster?





Supposedly, this thing washed up on a beach in East Hampton, New York. No one has any idea as to what it is. Some people are claiming that it’s a raccoon. A few people are saying it’s a dog. One person even claimed that it’s a deformed turtle. Several people even believe it’s an experiment created by the gov’t.

What do you guys think it is?

I’m not sure what it is ether. I’m almost tempted to say a pig but the mouth doesn’t look right for it. What I think they should do is run a DNA scan on it. (if not a hoax) and see if it matches anything in known zoology. It may look deformed because it has been in water. But still I have no idea what it could be.

it looks fake to me but if anything it looks like a type of deformed pig or boar. deformities do happen such as an animal being born with 2 heads or extra limbs. deformities such as hair loss, change in teeth or bone structure, change in skin or fur coloring, etc can very well occur. how do u think theres dif breeds of dogs? its all genetics, breeding, and environment. it could very well be some thing created by the government or its just nature at work

I don’t think this was photo shopped. This was on the news and in newspapers. according to what I found out there was a body and a picture was taken by a lady and the remains were recovered by a life guard after it decomposed some. But it did decay like an organism would but the question is what was it? Then again the information I found could have been twisted beyond the truth. Just thought I would share what Ive found.

i think its just a pig or something that already spent a good amount of time in the water. to me it doesnt look like a beak or something at all, just part of the skull exposed. also, its front arms appear to be tied, suggesting that someone saw this animal and possibly killed it before it ended up in the water.

Rebecca Wright, I read an article about it and a few different people took pictures. One woman took pictures of it while it was being tossed in the waves. So that’s probably why it’s in different positions.
I don’t know what it is...I think a DNA test would be a good idea.

I really just think it’s a very decomposed dog. It’s discolored, it’s bloated, it’s decaying and falling apart. It happens. I used to live in Monterey, CA on Delmonte beach and we had dead things wash up all the time. Even a raccoon here and there and a few times you wouldn’t want to guess it was a raccoon, but of course, it was. Even sea lions can look pretty messed up after they wash up. After a big storm one sumer there were probably over a dozen sea lions on a the beach and I remember my family and I staring at one because it just didn’t look like a sea lion anymore. I’m sure this is just a poor dog that drown or died on a boat and was thrown off. Who knows why it’s lost it’s hair. Could be just from decaying which is very likely, or maybe the poor thing was sick.

If you look at multiple videos on youtube (including one by Jeff Corwin who says it’s a dead, defurred raccoon), you can piece together what it is. The beak is an optical illusion as the front jaw of the animal, and better seen in the ’turned over’ view. On a close-up HD video of it, the jaw looks to be canid. As for the ’the body is too fat to be a dog’ argument up there in this thread, that’s because dead things bloat - seriously so after being in the water for a prolonged period. The same thing occurs to all dead things, making even us look disfigured and alien after a point. Death isn’t pretty.

What most likely happened is that a stray dog was tied up and drowned. You can see it in a close-up of one of the pictures that the front legs are tied together with rope that ain’t so fresh.

The entire issue revolves around the one picture that makes the jaw bone look like a beak (even though the lower jaw clearly has teeth.) Fox news only used that one picture to show an article, and that’s how the whole ’Montauk Monster’ debacle started. If you look at a detailed version of the un-cooked side, you can clearly see what’s left of a fur coat, that the ’beak’ is clearly an upper jaw of a mammal, a better view of the ears, a better view of the upper face, and the whole canid/near canid appearance about it.

An decomposing animal especially after being in water is going to be bloated and look pretty bad what ever it is . I am sure if they test the DNA they will find out exactly what it is . A dead sea turtle would be my guess .

Pictures are not clear enough to be used as evidence.
1)You cannot properly see the underbody at all
2)You cannot properly see the hooves/hands/feet.
3)A closeup of the face would be needed.

I’d like to say it seems similar to a ’gryphon’ it could be a failed experiment at splicing, dare I say.

for those of you who are up to date in cryptozoology, it is in fact a raccoon. its upper mandible had rotted away and exposed the bone, the "beak" u are seeing is in fact the upper mandible and nose section of the skull. for confirmation check out the old links on the crypto website.
