 Chinchillas

South America in the Andes mainly. They eat grasses, forbs, nuts, berries in the wild. But, you can by commercial food at any pet store. Most pet owners keep them in galvanized metal cages and offer them perches and other things to jump on. They have to roll in volcanic ash 2-3 times a week to keep thier coats in good condtition. I just sold my chinchillas because I was allergic to the dust.

Yeah, basically. But their family name means chinchilla rat. So, they are rodents kinda like guinea pigs I guess.

I personally didn’t like the chinchillas, but I was allergic to the hair. Lots of hair and dust. Plus, you need to get more than one because they live longer and do better with a same species friend. One of ours would never use the litter box, and we tried everything. It would just pee out the side of the cage and usually at the top too.

Chinchillas make good pets for some people. They won’t use a littler box and there is no way to keep the poo in the cage. The droppings are hard little pellets and are easy to clean up ( i love my dust buster).

Some don’t like to be held, some will only take if doe a short while.

They are nocternal and run on their wheel all night.

They are very cute and it’s fun to watch them run around the house.
