 Question about feeders!

Okay, owning one snake is not enough of a reason for me to began breeding mice, so I will go with frozen, since there are no local suppliers. So I have a few questions, I plan on buying a baby Ball Python, and I have been looking on rodentpro.com. How many come in a bag, it says "Less than 500" Do you pick how many you want or something? About how man pinkies will I need before moving up? I mean, I dont want to be stuck with 100 pinkies that I can’t use. What are some other RELIABLE sites? Thanks, and If I posted this in the wrong place please just tell me, thanks again!

You can always look for local reptile groups and do either a group buy, or to sell whatever you have left back off.

Aren’t there any reptile shows near you? Rodentpro sends a big truck to a lot of them, and you can just walk over, buy a bag of 50 or 100 or whatever for the same price as on the website, and not even have to pay shipping, which is where you get can killed financially. Even if Rodentpro doesn’t work your local show, I’m sure somebody does. You can check for conventions at Kingsnake.com and just hit wherever is closest.

For a ball python, start with at least fuzzies, and only get 50 or 100. Some of the nutrients break down after about 6 months, so you want to use them up. But, the snake will tend to eat more than one per meal anyway, if you do what I’m about to suggest.

What I do is take the whole bag and a kitchen gram scale and divide all the mice up into labelled bags. It doesn’t take long; you can do it while watching one "Simpsons" rerun. To clarify, a bag of fuzzies may well have every size in it from 2 grams to 10 grams. So when you’re done, all the 2’s are in a ziplock that clearly says "2 grams", the 3s are in the "3 grams" bag, and so forth. Then, you just start with the smallest size and use those up first. By the time you get to the biggest ones in the bag, the snake will have grown. Whether or not you start with hoppers will depend on the snake, but the second bag will certainly not be fuzzies any more.

Okay, thanks for that! Actually, this place sorta sucks, the nearest Reptile Shows are HOURS away, and their are only TWO breeders locally. And not many people here even have snakes as pets, there used to be a big snake shop but it closed 6-8 years ago? Since then, snakes sorta faded away. But thanks for that, and my mom typed the main thing and she was talking about rat pinkies or something, Im not really sure lol, she confuses everyone including herself lol Thanks a lot though, seriously!

Oh. Rat pinkies would be a good starter size. If you have to send away you’ll get screwed on shipping fees, of course, but a hundred of them plus shipping is probaby still not much worse than they’d cost from a pet shop, and pet shops don’t necessarily have the size you need anyway when you need it.
You ought to be able to see the bag size options on the site. Just out of curiosity, I’m going to go take a look. I used to order my CCP’s guinea pigs from Rodentpro, before I started just getting them cheaper from Rodentpro at the All Cleveland Show, so I’ve browsed through their website enough times that the answer might catch my eye better than it did yours.

Yeah, it’s on there. 100 per bag. if you look straight down under their description of what a pinkie or whatever it is, they tell you in red numbers how many there are per bag. So for one bag, you’d get 100 at the "under 500" price listed over towards the right.
They won’t rip you off on the actual number, but as far as size goes, they can be all over the place sometimes, more often erring in the low direction, so a thirty dollar digital gram scale is a great thing to have. Plus, fun to track your snake’s growth on.
