 Breeding Gold Fish

Hello : Do anyone here know about Breeding Gold Fish. I have some now and I know they don’t spawn untill Spring. But what I don’t know is about how Old or Big do the Gold Fish have to be befor they will spawn. I want to use them for feeders later. I have 3-4 pet that will eat them and I live 150 mils round trip to the pet store.
I raise my own Crickets, Meal Worms ( they are few in getting started ) My Meal Worm Beetle seems to die off to fast. Anyway Back to my Gold Fish. I’am raising guppys & mollies for feeders now. Not haveing good luck with My mollies yet eather. They had ICK.
Mollies are doing better now. But no Fry yet.

gold fish are really unreliable at breeding. Try swordtails. I had two in my community and ended up with 40 . I’d say just use a sponge filter instead of anything else. That way they dont get sucked up. Its easy to tell them apart as well.

I’ve had goldfish for years, no clue how to sex them yet tho. I’ve tried every fish combo in that tank, and no babies. And have over 20 golds!

Hello ; Thank You for your replys. I have 2 Red Slider Turtles, 2 Garder Snakes, 1 Chinese Water Dragon that I want to feed fish as PART of their Diet. I also raise & feed Meal Worms, Crickets. I Buy night Crawlers to feed. I’am starting to raise Guppies & Mollies as feeder fish. But I have 10 Gold fish and thought about Breeding them as well. But they only spawn onec in spring.

So I got me some more Guppies 10 Females & 2 Males in a 10 gal tank & 6 Females & 1 Male in a 5 gal tank. The ones in the 5 gal tank have had 25 babies already and I have a Fry tank set up for them. I also have a birth cage in the fry tank for my Mollies to go into when ready to have their babies. So I can have all the Fry in one Tank. My 4 Mollies had about 50-60 babies and I put lots of plastic weeds in their tank for the Fry to hide in and I have 3 babies left that I put in the fry tank now.

My Mollies had ICK also. And One of My Mollies Males Dies. I had 4 Female & 2 Males. Now 4 Females & 1 Male. Does Anyone Know if my male Mollie ( Sailfin ) will breed with my 2 spotted ( Black & White ) Mollies. I got 3 Sailfin Mollies because they are bigger then the Guppies I have. And I had 3 Spotted Mollies.

I looked at Swordtails also. If my Mollies don’t pan out I will go to Sword Tails next. Or maybe even Platies. Thank you for your help. Bucky
