 Gel cubes?....

Hey, does anyone know how to make those water gel cube things? I’m keeping mealworms and going to be keeping crickets soon and I really don’t want to pay those high prices for them and to be honest potatoes and carrots keep going to waste (take a slice off of one then by the time i get halfway through the potatoe or carrot its getting moldy). So really, if anyone knows how could you please tell me? Thanks!

i don’t do that but what i do is feed lettuce to my supers. take a little piece of leaf and give it to them daily. for my crickets (when i had ’em) and now roaches i make a mix in the blender of things like endive, romaine, parsley, watercress, etc. all cheap except the endive (but i have that for my bun anyway) and throw some water in. it becomes like a frothy slush. i keep some in the fridge and make ice cubes of the rest. and defrost a cube as needed. a small batch lasts me about 2-4 weeks. they love it too.

That’s not a bad idea. The only problem is I brought the gel cubes up to a couple of friends and now they want to buy some off of me if i can make it. lol I think I’m going to try the idea you gave me though. Do your worms kinda bury the food you give them? I just got my mealies today and I threw in a potato slice and a piece of carrot a few hours ago and now tehy are almost completely submerged in the substrate, which barely even covers the ground of their enclosure.

hahaha. no i feed mine endive lettuce because they like it and it kinda floats on top of the substrate, slowly shrinking over the course of the day. maybe they normally bury it and my supers are weird? i dunno, don’t have much experience with mealworms. though that could be the case, i tend to get weirdo animals. anyway, the slush is easy, cheap, and adored. can’t be used for the worms though. i think veg is best for them as even gel would probably mold their substrate.

Yea. I think Imma stick with potatoes, carrots, and lettuce for the mealies. Now I need to figure out something good for crickets. Thanks for the info.

if it helps, i spent 2.99$ on a container of gut load at petco last night...wasnt gonna pay 9$ for the water...so i gota bottle cap...cut up a sponge, and soaked it and put it in the bottle cap. that way they can drink, but wont drown...has worked so far with no problems.

You can also soak a tissue paper in water wring it out so get rid of excess water and the crickets love that. Only problem with that is that they poop on it alot so you might have to change it often.
