 I have some contradicting info!

i already posted this on the alligator forum please comment back i want to get as much info as possible!

i have read several bold and stern post about how you cannot keep a blue belly and a alligator lizard together in the same cage. well to make a long story short i tried it, after i got a alligator i caught a blue belly and i dont have enough money or room for two cages. from the second i put them together the have gotten along perfectly! the alligator is pretty good size im not sure if its male or female, but the blue belly is def a male. they even seem or act like friends. they follow each other around and when they crawl over each other they dont even get puffed up or defensive!

Soooo my question is if they get along, is there any other reason to keep them apart?????????


tell me if the alligator is male or female?

well the rule of thumb is do not mix species, but i have done this on numerous occasions. it is a trial and error kind of thing. just watch closely for fighting and make sure they both get there share of food...i cant tell what sex your alligator lizard is, but since it doesn’t seem territorial it’s a good chance it’s female, sorry and good luck!!!

Ive done it... but it doesnt mean its safe...
Hope you make a good decision!

PS you should not keep them on sand .. it causes impaction which WILL kill them

you shouldn’t house different species because of parasite problems and fighting. just because they get along doesn’t mean its ok. how old are you? this is a pretty selfish and very irresponsible thing for an adult to do. if you can’t afford another cage then let one of them go. the fact that you think this is ok because they get along tells me your reptile husbandry is lacking extremely. i don’t mean to be rude but you need to go back to reptile 101. please make an adult decision or if you are a kid which i really hope you are for making such a poor decision please do the right thing.

ok well you said you didnt mean to be rude but you are, i always welcome different opinions and ideas thats what this site is for, so if you think i should do something different then just tell me as long as it concerns my pets i’m not interested in what you think of me as a person next i can assure you i routinely check and treat them so i have no doubt they are parasite free. so heres the facts, there is no doubt my lizards get along and there is no doubt they are parasite free.
my question for you is you said just because they get along doesnt make it ok, what other problems is there besides parasites and getting along with eachother?

ps. Iam not trying to turn this post into a heated, ego battle, post match, i just enjoy seeing concepts from all views, even the ones that arent posted in the standard petshop.
