 LOOK!

Here’s the deal, the little guy that I thought was male, isn’t a male. I was looking at her yesterday and she looked like she was holding eggs, yet I didn’t believe it because her blue on her throat was darker so I thought most definitely she was a male. I came home today to two eggs. I moved them to incubate, came back about an hour later to six more. Ahhh I’m so excited! I think she might be laying more right now. When I came home to the other six eggs they were kind of dented, so I’m hoping the incubation saves them! 82 degrees at 86% humidity. That’s the highest I can get the humidity. I got all holes plugged off and lots of water in deli cups and in the water tray in the bottom of my hova-bator....

My gravid mature female has yet to lay her eggs. GRRRR

I will keep this up to date!

YESSSS!!!!

 LOOK!

I shined some light in my incubator to check them out. It seems the last six she laid aren’t going so well. They’re already turning yellow. Darn it! Two are full and looking good though! I.E. Top left and bottom right corners...

Should I remove the yellow eggs or give it a couple days? I’m thinking remove them. They’re obviously not fertile, and or I didn’t get to them in time. Either or they’re still yellow. So.....

Actually I think they were all fertile, they all had some pink to them. I’m guessing the pink spots is the embryos?

 LOOK!

The eggs should start to swell over the next few days. The dead ones wont swell. Leave the yellow eggs in for a few more days, but if they fail to swell like the good eggs, then remove them.

What good eggs should look like after they have swelled and embryos have begun to develop.

 LOOK!

Thanks for the help!

These are looking pretty yellow though, kinda like rotten, but I’m going to give it time. I’m thinking I got two more clutches on the way. I thought I had only one gravid lizard, turns out I might have three. Hopefully I can get to those eggs on time. Hopefully I can! I got the gravid adult female in a cage with nothing but vermiculite. The lizard that laid today didn’t have a lay box, so that’s why it was so iffy. I should have known! I thought! but didn’t believe. Then I was a moron and left her in the bark after finding two eggs to lay more. UGHHH what was I thinking!!!

We’ll see what happens. I thought the patience was waiting on the eggs to get laid. Nope, it’s really waiting on them to incubate and hatch lol but I guess if they don’t swell at all, then the wait is over. GRRR

GOOD NEWWWWSSSSSS!

My gravid mature female(Mama) laid hers today. WOOOOO!!!!

I came home and there were two on the top of the vermiculite, and then there was seven about a half inch down. All seem to be good! She made sure to do her part in keeping them moist within the vermiculite, now I love her even more! lol

I’m glad you told me to hold on to the yellowish dented eggs. It seems the dents are slowing popping out. I’m guessing they’re fertile and there’s a good chance they’ll make it!

So far I got 5 lizards, what’s another 17? Holy oh my lol

It seems the first clutch of 8 aren’t fertile. Although the second clutch of 9 are swelling faster I’m going to give it another five days. I’m thinking that since Destiny is so young still, that maybe they were her first clutch of eggs that she has ever laid. Maybe if I had a male they would have been a go! But.. I think they’re duds. 9 babies on the way!

Well, Star laid her clutch of 8 today. They’re tiny, and probably aren’t fertile like Destiny’s aren’t.. We’ll see! 25 eggs in a week, I guess it’s kinda cool! Just sucks they aren’t all fertile like Mama’s, but I guess that’s less lizards to build for till next year :)

Anybody else getting eggs??

HELLOOOO???? lol

Congrats on the eggs man!!! Well my female is getting fatter by the day again... She must be brewing a second clutch.... Hope the male that I put in there yesterday is not too late!!!! She sure is looking chunky though... I think I now have a one year old male and a two rear old female... Good luck with the eggs man, Im super excited for you. Mostly jealous though lol... If mine doesnt have any fertile eggs, I may be hitting you up for a baby man... I really want a captive hatched baby so that it will become much more tame... Oh.. BTW you need to be very careful about inbreeding those things.... Talk to you later man!

 LOOK!

Yes, I’m watching the eggs and keeping an eye on who’s is who’s. That way I won’t inbreed. But I guess if nine hatch, or even more, I really won’t need anymore lol but I might breed some, and sell them to some people on here if they want them. They don’t go for much, but I think it’d be a good thing! So I will for sure watch on who’s clutch is who’s and what lizards belong to who. Maybe I will just make some collars out of colored 1/16" nylon to mark the mamas and their babies lol

I’m planning on building an enclosure 8’Lx6’Hx2’W so I should be good. Got about 5 months to do it. And when I want to breed, I will just use my current enclosure which is 36"Lx17"Hx18"W.

I believe they hold the eggs for around a month. Not sure if this is the period from when they start to develop them or what, but yeah. I had my lizards for 3 weeks, and they all three laid their eggs in the fourth week.

 LOOK!

I had some friends when I was younger that had a huge open cage... It was under a big window. Was probably 8’ long 4-5’deep and the whole front wall was plexi. The top was all open They used a 6" strip of plexi to keep them from crawling out. It was a big high desert scene. With a hill that built up on one side and rocks .. they had real sage brush and cactus in there too... They would use a separate tank for the egg laying too... One corner of the tank was more forest like and there were 3-4 alligator lizards in with them...

 LOOK!

I’m just going to use wood and screen or plexi-glass. 2x4’s 1x4’s and maybe some 4x4’s. I’m going to put I’m thinking 5 doors on the front for access and maybe a full door on one of the sides for complete access. The front will be the only side that has screen/glass but I’m going to put a couple vents down low on the sides and maybe a couple somewhere on the back. My fencies are open woodland lizards, so basically a dry woodland enclosure is what I’m after. It’s going to take 2 4’ tube lights, 3 2’ or 3’ tube lights(haven’t decided which yet, still working on a light plan), and probably six basking lights and six night lights(night lights for heat if needed). It should be quite a fun project, and for sure I will be putting pictures on here!

LOL yeah! but you know, things like this don’t happen very often. and how many people do you know that have a cage that big full of lizards!? lol

I’m not too concerned about how much it’s going to cost, I’m concerned about it looking good and being comfortable and proper for the lizards lol

This is how I see it though, I got these lizards hoping to breed them next year, but it seems I got eggs early, and no males lol which is fine, except a crimp in my wallet lol

It’s a responsibility man! It’s just like a dog or a cat. You adopt it, you take care of it, and you also go to the extremes of keeping it healthy and happy. I got these lizards knowing what was coming, kind of lol. First cage I spent 380 bucks on, that’s just the cage and stand. No lights, no decorations, nothing. I’ve spent so much money on the cage I have now that I could have used that money and just built the one I want right now and probably would have saved a few bucks. But it’s okay, because now I have a breeder cage! Wooo!!! lol what to do what to do. I guess make more money lol

But, I’m not married lol

LOL... It wouldn’t be as much of an issue if I wasn’t laid off right now.... But oh well! I think Im just going to buy one of those incubators, I thought they were allot more money because I was looking at ones at my local reptile shop and they were $150!!! I was like F that..... Im going to change the substrate over to a mix of pearlite and vermiculite which should do better with the egg laying... I also need to go buy one more lamp so I can have my ceramic heater and a basking light on it during the day... If she lays and the cage is outside in the heat they are sure to cook again.... Take it easy man.... Thanks for letting me bounce ideas off you..

Yeah 150$ is a little much for only a couple clutches a year. The one I have is decent size for what I want it for. It’s an 18inch square probably 8 inches tall. Plenty of room! Incubate eggs at 82 degrees around 90% humidity. I plugged off every hole in my incubator with tips of Q-tips and the highest I’ve got the humidity to go is 89%, which I believe is fine. I got water in the water tray, and water in three deli cups. I also don’t put lids on the egg containers. There’s four holes on the top of the incubator, one in the corner where the top seals; for cords and such, and 12 holes in the sides near the bottom, i.e. three on each side.

Well keep me posted on your breeding!!!

Saturday I got rid of six eggs from the first clutch. Although they un-dented they stayed yellow and began to mold :(

I decided to candle the eggs tonight using a single LED bright white mini flashlight. A lot of the eggs have veins already! YAY! I’m going to candle again on Friday to check the ones that didn’t have veins tonight.

 LOOK!

Well.....

I disposed eight more eggs today. When I candled them they glowed completely yellow.

I figured that since I have ten eggs, that aren’t glowing yellow but instead rosey red/pink with veins on the inside, that these yellow eggs are duds just full of yoke. GRRRR!

Ten eggs are a success so far! I will post updates again Friday; seeing as that’s when I chose to add fresh air to incubator weekly....

Ten out of 25 eggs is kind of a sad story. But it could be because I didn’t have a male present in the tank. I’m really not quite sure though.....

Only a little over a month to go lol

I didn’t get any eggs this year because the females laid their eggs in the wrong place. Next year I will go back to the old tub set up for the breeders instead of the big screen cage. In the tubs they found the lay boxes and did fine, in the screen cage they seemed to get lost.

I think that 10 out of 25 when you were expecting to only have one clutch AND had no males. Is actually not to bad of a turn out man..... I cant wait to see the babies! It’s crazy, because the one clutch that I did right with preparation of her being in an egg laying tank only had one fertile egg, out of nine. The other two clutches were laid in the main enclosure and on top of the dry bark substrate. but 10 babies here we come! I got 1 fertile egg from one clutch, 2 from another, and 7 from the other. So I’m happy about that!

Next year I’m going to set up my current main enclosure that I have now for a breeding enclosure. and in Dec/January I’m going to build an enclosure 8’ long x 6’ high x 2’ wide! It might be a little expense with lights since it’s going to be inside... But it should be awesome. We’ll see!
