 Orange Poop

I looked into my tank today and I saw some orange poop. It was white and black, but had an orange spot. Is there anything wrong with Winky? Please tell me!

Like you went outside & dug up a bunch Red Clay dirt & your actually using it as a substrate?? How do you clean & replace it ? Or is it a different type of dirt? Regardless I’d try switching to something more... cleanable, especially if it’s red clay which if ingested would & can obviously result in orange colored defecation. Bark probably isn’t a good thing to use, even if it’s worked so far & isn’t the cause of the orange poop.

Eh, my lizards have been living on paper towels for days due to mites and treatment. It seems today, one of the adults had orange poo; kinda like white(urine) and runny orange diarrhea.

Not sure what caused it, because there is just paper towels, a water bowl, and a black rock in the tank, and has been that way for over a week. My lizards also have a bowel movement daily.

Did you actually see mites on them? I was talking to that shop about mites too and they have a air sol spray that supposedly works better than repta-relief.. Im thinking about spraying them down when I start the de-worming treatment...

I picked mites off of them for days with a needle (until I got the reptile relief.) Then I put the mites on a hard surface and scraped them with that needle. It in turned popped the mite and left a trail of blood, so I’m pretty sure they were mites. I even watched the tiny mites crawl around to see how fast they were. I also gave the lizards warm baths neck down for 5-6 minutes to try and drown the mites. It worked fair, but not good enough.

Reptile relief seems to work good. I spray a little on my fingers and then lather up the whole lizard till it’s neck and whole body is slippery from the product. Talk about having a hard time holding on to the lizards lol Within seconds the mites die, let go and start to fall out from under the scales. I’m going to treat the lizards and the tank three times at 3 day intervals, after that all mites should be dead.

My lizards lived on reptile bark for a couple months and I’ve never seen orange poo. Try feeding him in a different enclosure for a month, or cup feed him and see if the orangeness goes away. It might have ingested some of the substrate. I just don’t think so because of my first comment above about my lizard.

Mine is scared of handling. And he only eats when a cricket comes near him... in other words, he doesn’t hunt.

You do have all the right lights for him don’t you? Does he have parasites?

Not yet, but if you want to go ahead.

The parasites live under the scales. They’re black ranging in sizes from microscopic to small enough to see with the eye. They live by sucking the blood, and if infested, you need to treat immediately; the lizard and the tank because they will multiply and multiply and multiply.

If you look under the scales at an angle, you will be able to spot them if they’re there. Use a small object like a needle, I used a dart tip lol, and gently try to force the parasite out going from side to side. Once it’s out, scrape/crush it with the object you used and it should pop and leave blood. That means parasites!

I ordered a bottle of Reptile Relief. You can google it and find it at quite a few places. If he has parasites let me know and I will tell you how I treated my lizards and tank.
