Where’d you find yours? I was able to collect 8 hatchlings and 2 adults in one day by walking along an abandon housing development and watching the curbs/ turning over logs and boards. Besides that a sunny woodpile works nicely.

I woke up one morning and my mom said she caught a lizard that ran into the house and we decided to keep him. But weirdly, I can’t find ANY outside or inside my house. Im trying to find a breeder.

Jared T,
What a beautiful picture! Well done!
Here are some of mine:

They are in the jar so I can do some habitat maintenance without having escapees running up my arms. This is one male and four females. I also have another adult female and two other adult males, and three hatchlings; one female and two males.

They are all western fence lizards.

Oh no. lol

I went with the Sony DSLR A330. Here’s a link! I chose Sony DSLR because it’s compatible with Minolta Mount Type A Lenses... Plus, because I like Sony!

Cool. I can easily understand that. The main reasons we got the EOS Rebel XSi was it fit her old analog/film style cannon rebel lenses she had and because Mom won’t get anything but cannons since she got one like 15 years agoand it out preformed anything she had been using... They have newer and better rebels cameras out of our price range though.

My camera is awesome! I’m glad I picked a Sony lol The shots I have taken tonight beat each and every other camera I have ever used. It even takes brilliant close ups, so why I would need a macro lens I have no idea, but yet I’m still going to buy one lol

I would have taken pics of the lizards, except by the time the battery got charged it hit night fall. Maybe tomorrow...

I have 4 eastern Fence Lizards found in the wild two adult males, one Juvenile male, and one Juvenile female. I would like less males and more females but take what I can find. I also have a adult 6-Lined Race Runner not sure what sex it is.

Get rid of two of the males. Never house more than one male in the same enclosure!

Outside lol you have to hunt for them. It just isn’t good to house multiple males in the same enclosure. If it’s getting cold where you are it might be hard to find them. You’ll have to wait till spring or summer. But release two of the males now, that way they have enough time to find a brumate spot. Feed them well before release..

OK sounds good. One thing though I seen on one of your posts that you raise crickets and I need to know how to raise them because I have about 35 crickets in my enclosure with the lizards and I know that’s probably hot good even if they can hid good from the lizards so help me if you can.

LOL never leave crickets with the lizards. Only put in the amount that will be eaten. Crickets will indeed disturb the lizards and try to bite/eat them.

The cricket breeding process is a lot to type. I’m sure if you browsed the cricket forum you should find all the info you need

You have four lizards, and you need to keep the breeding cycle going so that you never have to buy crickets again?

You need two 66qt+ storage tubs, at least four Tupperware sandwich containers, a bag of sterile vermiculite, a squirt bottle, and some 1/4 inch wire mesh.

Also, a box of 250+ 1" crickets. LLLreptile.com sells them in bulk for cheap.

In the big storage tub, put all the breeding crickets in it. Also provide a sandwich container with at least one inch of moist vermiculite in it. The wire mesh is for on top of the vermiculite, it prevents crickets from digging and eating the eggs so make it snug to fit. The crickets will lay eggs in the vermiculite so provide a way for them to get to it. Also keep it moist for at least three weeks. After four days, take it out and replace it with a new one. Take the first one, and put it in the other big tub. It should begin to hatch in two weeks. Keep track of dates! After the three weeks, I generally just dump the vermiculite into the big tub with the remaining baby crickets that didn’t get out of it and smooth it out. Baby crickets can climb mostly anything, so get some clear one sided packing tape and put it all the way around the inside of the baby cricket tub, at least four inches from the top. If the crickets reach the tape, they will just fall.

When breeding crickets, you want to keep some from each cycle that way when they reach adult hood, you can in turn allow them to breed and lay eggs. Keep the eggs from 80-85 degrees. I just put all my crickets in one of my small rooms with a space heater. It works perfect

Never leave baby crickets with adult crickets! They will eat them. And always provide enough food and water or else most will die.

I use puppy food. But cat food will work. It’s cheaper than potatoes and lasts longer. Crush it up for babies!

I also use water crystals for their water source. It’s cheap, and you can get a bunch for cheap at watercrystals.com.

After you get the breeding cycle really going you’ll need to buy more storage tubs. At least 4 total.

Yup. Keep me posted on the progress. I’d like to know.

A cricket lives about 8 eight weeks. They start breeding at week 6....

I like to keep crickets within the same two weeks in their own tub. But some people do it with more tubs and go by one week. That’s too much lol

Oh yeah, if your incubating/rearing room isn’t at least 85 degrees, they’ll grow real slow. The warmer it is, the faster they grow. You could even use basking lights if you don’t wanna heat the whole room. Just get the red/black type bulbs cuz crickets like the dark...

Potting soil will work, except it generates gnats out the ying yang. Be sure to bake at a high temp to kill everything in it.

Vermiculite is sold where the soil is, it’s just an alternative for soil. In the gardening section at walmart or whatever store you have there.

Whichever you choose, just make sure that it’s sterile and has no additives.
