 Best temp for basking area

I recently bought two four foot 10.0 reptisun bulbs for two pairs of blue bellys .the cages are side by side. The temp is a constant 80 degrees with the lights on. with the lights at the highest they can go with still emitting beneficial uvb there is not enough room for a heat lamb for a basking area. I would like them to be as comfortable as possible.i need to know what the ideal temp is

Ideal temps during the day, upper 80’s lower 90’s. Basking areas mid 90’s to the 100’s.

Ideal night temps, lower to mid 70’s. Your best bet is to mock the temps that are outside.

My thoughts aren’t exactly right, but it should give you an idea.. Fence lizards need a basking area, it helps them digest and collect energy from the heat...

my problem is that i cant fit a heat lamb between the lights and the top of the cage.have you seen anything on the market that is unusually small and flat that can emit the heat that they need.
also i noticed after putting the new lights in they don’t seem to want to come out of there hiding places

Reason they’re hiding is probably because you only need one fluorescent bulb. Remove one.

All shapes and sizes. Just buy two of the 5 and 1/2 inch fixtures, and two daylight 60 watt UVA basking bulbs. One for each tank.

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/heat-bulbs-night-heat-bulbs-ceramic-bulbs/-/zoo-med-60-watt-day-bulb/

I have a 55 gallon tall, with a screen lid. I bought a linear 10.0 UVA/UVB bulb and laid it across the screen top. If you’re not dealing with a screen top, and are mounting the bulbs inside the enclosure, then get the 5.0 bulbs. I bought a dome fixture w/ a bulb and I set that on the screen lid on the right side of the tank. That way there is a warm side, and a cool side. Since your tanks are small, you could probably go with a 40 watt bulb. Also, on the side that has the basking light, put in branches so the the lizards can pick with level of basking area they like.

thank you for your advice on everything and please dont take this the wrong way but i kinda have a small budget with all the animals(100 bucks monthly)if i need to get a new setup ill figure out how to get the money.i want to get everything possible to keep my little friends comfortable. on that note if all do possible i would like to use what i have .

four foot fixture 10.0 bulbs
two heat lamps with incandescent light (not being used temps get up to 103-105)

p.s. i do live in a small town and the only thing close is a petco. the people that work there have no idea about the reptiles and the reptile products they sell

The two heat lamps and incandescent bulbs should work. If the fixtures won’t fit on top of the cage, you might have to down grade to smaller ones. Which is fine, other than the money part. Do NOT use an under the belly heat source, such a heat rocks.

I live in a very small town too, and I think the nearest petco is 3 hours away. I just order everything online from parts, cages, lights, and food.

My three sites that I use are,

LLLreptile
FlukerFarms
and bigappleherp

Also, since you have 4 lizards, and might be into breeding(?) them, you might want to save some money up to start a breeding colony of crickets. It would sure save you money monthly on the cricket deal, and you won’t have to go to the store to get them, and or have them shipped to you(in the winter they’ll arrive dead).

just to be safe im going to order two of daylight bulbs you told me to get.breeding crickets is a good idea im just not quite sure how to go about it.what i kind housing ,temp, and what they eat.

got really lucky last night and found a large cage(four feet long, two feet tall, sixteen inches wide).I plan on taking my time on this cage. im going to wrap the sides and the back with cork board.a drip line for humidity going to there small pool(big a** water dish)if possible i would like to use live plants. thats just a few ideas

I had to take a pair of scorpions from a friend of mine. he had no clue what he was doing.the cage had just dirt no water,no food,no hiding places, and were outside(its getting really cold at night ) i never had scorpions but they dont seem to be all that hard to care for

All seems good. I just wanted to add Jared’s temperature recommendations are for enclosures with beyond ample room so the lizards can move in and out of different temperature zones and regulate their own body temperatures.

Good advice for tanks that have like 65-70+ gallons... I completely agree that mimicking the natural environment is your best bet... and my lizards stay at temperatures that closely resemble their personal natural environments. How often does it get above 90 degrees in NC? For roughly a 20-30 days in the height of summer, during the afternoons. I stick to the 75-85 degree range with a smaller enclosure, I try to keep it in the 80s during the day and low to mid 70s at night. Remember, it’s currently 65 degrees outside now and fencey’s are still active during the daytime here.

I dn’t have a light or anything, but the temperature during the day is at LEAST 85 degrees and at most could be one-hundred something degrees, but i caught him here, so i thought it would be fine. now, he doesnt look good (look at my topic). So, should i give him a light? hes on the far side of the room with no light but the temperature of the house, waow.

Get a UVA/UVB linear bulb. Preferably a 10.0 because your lizard is probably suffering from metabolic bone disease...

The light also improves metabolism. If your lizard isn’t eating well, it’s because you need the light!

Sorry to say it, but my lizards will eat DEAD crickets right from my fingers. It must either be the light, or they just know me that well....

I think the ’light’ is a big part of it though.
