Lighting question
Ok my lighting question: what wattage and UVA or UVB light? I asked the petstore and she gave me a 60 watt UVA basking light. Sara the lizard spent all and I mean all her time perched at the highest point right under the light as long as it was on. The thermometer reads 80 on the cool side and 90 on the warm side. I changed it to a 75 watt UVA baski g bulb and now she won’t bask right under the light but on the branches to the side and I find her under her cave during the day. The thermometer still reads 80 or 83 on the cool side but about 95 on the warm side. Lastly, nowhere on the box does it say UVB but it is the light the reptile person at the pet store said to get. I’m afraid we have the wrong kind of bulb and I don’t know which wattage. An unrelated question: why does she do pushups? Or a pumping action? Thanks for your help. Brenda mom to 2 kids, a husband, 2 dogs, a lizard and a fish. |

I’d go back to the 60 watt bulb. The 75 watt is probably a little too hot. She stays under the light because the warmth helps with digesting, and because they just like the warmth. You’re also going to need a fluorescent linear tube bulb that is UVA/UVB. If you’re going to set it a top/on the screen lid then you’ll need a 10.0. If you’re going to mount it inside get a 5.0. It can be either a ReptiSun or a Zoo Med brand bulb. What this light does is it fights metabolic bone disease and increases their metabolism, and provides vitamin D3. From what I understand UVA rays helps them see, and the UVB rays keeps their health in good hands. It basically just replicates the sun. Welcome to RepticZone! |
