hey, yass i inspired someone haha

ypou should never touch a snake if you dont know what it is, it could turn nasty!

dont touch adders, they get pissy and although their venom is not particularly strong, it has been known to kill and you would need a hospital appointment.

also, it has been made illegal to touch many of our native reptile species... as far as i have been informed anyway...
amphibians, (natterjack toads and great crested newts aside) you can touch no problems

I highly recommend field herping, but I don’t recommend picking up a hot snake without the right equipment and training. I used to teach at a nature center, and in the course of teaching there I was bitten by a copperhead. The pain is horrible. You could easily lose a body part from a bad bite. Just admire it from a distance. That is my thinking.

Wales is great for Herping. I’ll admit that it can be tricky at times but perseverance reaps great reward. Wales is littered with old quarries and the like and they are littered with perfect habitats for SlowWorms and CommonLizards. Just t’other week I was out walking, old bit of corrugated iron on the ground, Slowworm!!
The quarries which aren’t just left to nature are mainly now Parks and stuff. The woods round large lakes etc..., in these places, are full of herps you just need to look.
Try perhaps going to FlatHolm off the SouthCoast. There, there is an abundance of a unique SlowWorm aswell as all your others.
The Gower and all the SandDunes on the West are full of Adders and SandLizards.
I’ve seen CommonLizards right up the top of some of Wales’s higher mountains.
Get out there and do it!!!
