 Don’t have a pic but...

I found this tiny (inch and a half) snake today in our recently laid multch. It had a black back, and a bright red-orange belly. It also had yellow ring at the base of its head. Can anyone take a guess at what it was?

Diadophis punctatus punctatus, southern ringneck snake. Unless you are in the keys, then it would be Diadophis punctatus acricus.

don`t even try to keep it . even adult ring necks are difficult to get to eat.we have caught quite a few ( in florida)they just hide all the time anyway , so if you cage it , you won`t ever see it ..let it go.

It cant be a northern or any other subspecies than a southern or a keys, since he is in florida.
