It depends on the fish. And you have to remember that they will get bigger as they mature. We only have 4 fish in a 75 gallon tank. But they are 3 oscars and a shovelnosed catfish. It depends on how ’messy’ the fish are.

Can you keep a 12" fish in a 12gallon?

There are too many variables for a rule like this including sizes of fish, tank dimentions, agression level (how much territory does one fish need...)

It works abit for small fish, but it wont work for larger fish. Best option is to research about the fish you want, find out how big it gets then plan accordingly

if you keep up the water changes, you could get away with 2 platties in a 6g.......just don’t get male female, get both of one or the other.

Also.....correct me if I am wrong, but don’t shovel nose cats get between 2 and 5 feet in length?

Yes they do. We didn’t know that when we bought him. Store guy told us they stayed 9" and eat the stuff on the bottom. Well he is now around a foot. Lol Imagine that a pet store employee was wrong. We will be digging an outdoor heated pond in a few years. Until then we are going to upgrade to a 210g for the catfish and three Oscars.

Sorry bout jacking your thread. You can have it back now.

Why don’t you use the 10g for breeding and put the fry in the 6g?

How many fish can you have in a 29 gallon tank?

I have three goldfish, one is about 3-4 inches long and the other two are small but meduim, then i got one swordfish, and two danio zebras.

Three albino frogs and i want to put more but i do not know how much i can add.

The one inch per gallon rule only applys when the fish will grow to be 1 inch and no bigger. Most glodfish varietys get to be 7+plus, so IMO a 29gallon is not acceptable for 3 goldfish and the others. You might want to think about rehoming some of the goldfish so you can set up a community talk and then the frogs will do much better.

I have to agree with Bellle. Mixing goldfish with other fish usually isn’t the best idea, especially in a tank so small.
