 Goldfish and guppies

can these two fish live together?? i have one orange guppy and i’ve added 3 goldfish to the tank.this guppy seems to be picking on the goldfish but only the orange one. is this because they are the same color ?!? should i remove the guppy? if so can the male guppy live with my male betta??

 Goldfish and guppies

Goldfish don’t really do as well with the temperatures that guppies like. They like their water cooler. So, I don’t think I would keep them like that or they will just end up dying. As far as the betta goes, I cannot confirm, but I have heard that male bettas will attack fancy tailed guppies because they have the longer fins and I guess the betta thinks it’s another male.

not a good idea to keep the goldfish with guppies. besides the temperature, which i learned that goldfish can actually live in warmer and cooler temps, the goldfish produce too much ammonia for tropical fish. of course this has also to do with the size of the tank. my rule, each goldfish has 10 gallons. each guppy needs about 3 (can’t remember their full grown size). also i wouldn’t risk putting the guppy in with the male betta because bettas can definitely live up to their name as fighting fish! i have heard of some that live well with others, but it would have to be closely monitored for sure.

Guppies get about an inch and a half long when they are full size. The general rule for SMALL tropical fish is one gallon of water per inch of body length, not including the tail. So, Guppies need about a gallon per fish. Guppies are also community fish, which means that they need others of their kind to hang out with. And I also agree, no goldfish or betas with guppies; they just don’t mix.

DO NOT PUT WITH YOUR BETA!!
male betas will fight with any other fish you put them with ESPECIALLY males of their species. But they will attack your fish. I know because i once put my goldfish in with my beta for just a few minutes while cleaning their bowls and they started fighting. I’m sure the guppy will get used to the goldfish. I advise you to keep them together or just buya simple goldfish bowl to put your goldfish in seperatly.

goldfish shouldn’t go in a bowl. they get too large and produce too much ammonia for a bowl. each goldfish should have 10 gallons.

no dont house goldfish in a bowl, a fancy goldfish needs 15 gallons each and a common will need at least 30, these fish grow to huge sizes, and will end up stunted being housed in too smaller homes. imagine an 8 inch fancy goldie in a bowl-it would never be happy. i have 3 fancy goldfish in 50 gallons, and 2 in 30 gallons, even at this id like them to have more room and they are only 4inches or so each.

as for the guppy and betta-dont even attempt it, we made that mistake once, didnt even think about it, dropped the betta in our community tank, he immediately went for our guppies, flaring and biting, luckily he was scooped out before any damage was done.

goldfish can be housed with guppies, ive heard of this before, but its far from ideal, guppies can live in the lower temps goldies need, but the problems that will arise are diets-goldies have different dietary needs to tropical fish, and also when the goldies grow, the guppies will more than likely become snacks.

house your fish separately, you goldies will need a very large tank or even a pond, with very good filtration. your betta will be better off housed alone, also in a filtered tank, no less than 5 gallons to give him a decent life, and why not buy a small tank, maybe 10 gallons and keep your guppy in with another couple of guppies, after all they are social fish. if you get 2 females to 1 male, your betta will have a nice supply of fresh live food with any fry born.

 Goldfish and guppies

Does it make sense to keep a small fish that stays an inch and a half in with a fish that gets 6 inches to a foot? I don’t understand why people think that just because they live for a month or two they’re fine together. Separate the guppy from the goldfish or the guppy will end up dying. Do NOT put in in with your betta. It is never a good idea to keep goldfish in with any fish besides other gold fish IF you have a 20 gallon tank or larger PLUS 10 gallons per goldfish. There’s whole bunch of other reasons besides the guppy being harassed why they should not be together too. Please do your research before just throwing fish in a tank together.
