Quote: but I just never bought into the good bacteria, balanced environment, and so forth about aquariums.
The reason your tanks are "bright and clear" is because of your biological filtration system within your tank. So, to simply dismiss them because you don’t understand how they work is a grave mistake when talking about proper tank maintenance and a balanced aquarium environment. The good bacterias within the tank are doing the vast majority of the chemical filtration in the water to keep it that way. Mechanical filtration’s usefullness extends to aeration, preventing stagnation, and removal of gross (larger) particles from the water. The chemical filtration aspect of a mechanical filter is VERY limited. The other things you listed do help to keep a tank balanced and maintained, but even with the best mechanical filtration in the world, it would never equal the chemical filtering power of the good bacteria/biological filtration within a balanced aquarium environment. -tpau15 |
