cloudy water is made from over feeding the fish and something else (it is rare) how many gallons is your tank? one drop per gallon (info is on youtube)

I agree with repi goddess. How long have you had your tank set up? With and without fish? If you have tried the clarifier and it hasn’t worked, it most likely is your tank trying to cycle itself. The cloudiness is probably due to the mass growth of microscopic good bacterias in your tank that eat chemical waste from the water.

I know it’s scientific and all that but I just never bought into the good bacteria, balanced environment, and so forth about aquariums. I like my water bright and clear and don’t like filth in it. Generally, if you use right size filters, change/clean the filters every week or two, don’t overcrowd, and most importantly don’t overfeed, your water should stay clear. It is true though that a new aquarium has to take hold and the water may well be cloudy for a few days until its all filtered and aerated. When setting up a new aquarium, I always fill it and use filters and aerators just with no fish for 3 days or so. JMHO

The reason your tanks are "bright and clear" is because of your biological filtration system within your tank. So, to simply dismiss them because you don’t understand how they work is a grave mistake when talking about proper tank maintenance and a balanced aquarium environment. The good bacterias within the tank are doing the vast majority of the chemical filtration in the water to keep it that way. Mechanical filtration’s usefullness extends to aeration, preventing stagnation, and removal of gross (larger) particles from the water. The chemical filtration aspect of a mechanical filter is VERY limited.

The other things you listed do help to keep a tank balanced and maintained, but even with the best mechanical filtration in the world, it would never equal the chemical filtering power of the good bacteria/biological filtration within a balanced aquarium environment.
