 Is this possible..?

Ok I have a friend who recently bought a betta fish and has it in a 2.5 gallon tank. She has another fish, I believe it is a glass tetra, in a 10 gallon at her other parent’s house and wants to bring it to her house. We were both wondering how well it would work out if she was to put the betta fish in the ten gallon tank along with the glass tetra? I’ve read before that as long as other fish aren’t similar to the betta and don’t have long flowing fins that they can get along fine in at least a 10 gal tank. But I’m wondering what you guys think on this?

well, i know that if u put a fish in with a beta, the beta will kill it. i wont take the chances. but wait till you get another reply, in case you can put them together.

I know that if you put a betta in with another betta they’d fight, I’m just wondering if any other fish that don’t look like bettas or have long flowing fins can be with them. I mean I’ve seen bettas in with other tropical schooling community fish at a local fish store (this is a very very nice store), and as I watched them they seemed to get along very good. The betta paid no attention to them whatsoever and all seemed really healthy. I’m just wondering what you guys think.

Yes, you can put the Betta in with non-colorful, quick moving tropical schooling fish, like the Glass fish. Although, I would get at least one more Glass fish to go with the one you said was in there all by itself. Schooling fish like to be in schools, or groups of their own species.

Keep in mind, not all Bettas are able to go in with other fish. Sometimes you can end up with one that is way more aggressive than normal and it won’t matter when fish you put in there with it, it’ll try to kill it. I recommend that you test the Betta first before permanently moving him over to the larger tank. By testing I mean put him in with the other fish ans watch him like a hawk for a few hours and see how it goes. If he does well during the test, he’ll do fine in the long run.

The single fish thing was because she wasn’t allowed to get any more fish besides that one in that house. Now that she wants to bring it back to her house I’ll be sure to tell her that, thanks.

And for the testing thing, I was just thinking about that xD. I told her about that before coming here and she wasn’t so sure even though she kind of wanted to try, so with this I’ll show her she could try :]

Depends on the Beta really. I’ve managed to house a Beta with a large school of fish before and he got along fine with them. He lived almost seven years in fact. But when I tried to house another beta with a bunch of African dwarf frogs, I ended up having to seperate him because he kept thumping on them.
