Frilled Dragon Horror Story (long story)

For starters a local pet store had a frilled dragon in for about 4 months and no one wanted to buy it because of it’s price tag. Rather steep. My boyfriend and I have been mostly into Water dragons and a our snake but wanted a new addition. So, we bought the cute thing.

So here is where the horror story begins...especially for a new owner. We get him home and he was acting strange almost dizzy...couldn’t walk well but still wanted to be active. I myself thought it was because he was trapped in a smaller cage the entire time. And thought he would recover once we got him into a larger enclosure.

(mind you it was late at night when we got him) So, Next day I am babysitting him while my boyfriend is at work. I notice then he was a bit skinny but no real issues there because I can fatten him up. Something tells me if I were a mite or a tick where would I hide on this precious creature. Instantly I looked under his flaps and oh the HORROR!!! A mite and tick infestation like no other!

I had to work on him for an hour and a half to safely wash off and remove all ticks and mites. The poor thing wasn’t too happy about all of this but he/she was a good sport throughout the process. I have never in my life seen so many nasty crawling creatures on such a tiny baby lizard in my life. Oh, and the horror doesn’t stop there then I decided to look at his vent area. I pulled down the vent a little and in the corners there were more ticks sucking away on my little friend. I got those off carefully too.

I marched myself back into the pet store and told them what I had to deal with all day. I was expecting to get some sort of mite spray for free since we paid so much for him/her but no they gave me a 2 dollar discount on the mite spray. I was so mad. Not to mention how much stuff I had to clean and get rid of in his brand new home. All the new substrate gone. A lot of money down the drain.

This Frilled dragon would have most likely died within 2 months at the most from this. The poor thing was anemic and had to be nursed back to health. It’s been about 3 weeks and he is eating solid food on his own and getting around better. I am sure his muscle will build and he will be able to run around a lot better.

Oh, bless it’s heart. Good job going to the pet store, my sister just reported one here because of the way they DIDN’T take care of their animals. Good luck with your baby.

Yeah, it’s really a good pet store and the people who run it are knowledgeable but I guess they just didn’t take the time to check on it. Thanks so much : )

He is truly a lucky dragon, to have scored such a caring home! Poor baby!

A pet store in my city had 2 frillies since they were babies, and because of the price they stayed in the pet store for 4 years, until death. They were asking $650.00 for each, and even after a few years of lost profit they refused to lower it any...so they died....Your dragon is truly blessed!

xoxoxo<-----to baby frillie!

Have you named him/her yet?

Oh my goodness...poor things!! Gosh that just makes me sick. Yeah, we named him/her Kratos pronounced Kray-tos. It goes along with the rest of our pet names like Thor, Attica, Tia, Leonidas, Rozzland (rozzie). We like to get creative when we name one of our beloved lizards.

I love your reptiles names! And kratos is a good frillie name too.

My boyfriend named his cat "Awesome Electric Joe Boogaloo"....that’s the most ’creative’ name i’ve ever heard!

Frilled Dragon Horror Story (long story)

Hi every one.I’m new here.We just rescued a 3 year old Frilled Dragon 3 days ago from some one that had to move.Thank God we got her.I’m also glad that I found your story because I’ll check our Frilled Dragon for the fleas and ticks.I’m sorry that you had to deal with all that.God bless you for taking such good care of your new Frilly.I’m worried about our Frilled Dragon ( Venus ) because she doesn’t close her mouth all the way and she looked like she had tears coming out of her eye today.I hope she doesn’t have mbd or any parasites. We will take her to our reptile vet as soon as she has a opening. She is very active when I let her free roam and she always watches me what I do.We have other Lizards, too,so we know how to set up the enclosure. She doesn’t want to eat any thing yet. What should I do ? Her poop looks good.Thank you for any info.(we have 2 Tegus with the name Leonidas and the other one is Zeus,a Bearded Dragon with the name Memphis ).
