 A word to the new keepers or to the old ones who should know this by now

frilling=stressed out lizard

stressed out lizard=cortisol realeased internally

cortisol=dampened immune system

dampened immune system PARTICULARLY IN REPTILES=disease

disease=death

your lizard is a lizard it is not an umbrella,

dont scare them deliberately IT IS seen as animal cruelty for good reason.

this post was mainly aimed at the guy reptileman since he made a thread asking how he could scare his dragon into frilling up.

making ure dragon frill up is one of the worst signs of PATHETIC ownership ive seen done and if you want to keep ure lizard alive ide recommend you follow this post

im not saying anyones a bad keeper here but what i am saying is dont make the mistake of buying one thinking u can show people the cool frill it’s pathetic and the frill novelty wears off soon. so in conclusion if you want this species for the frill you will be dissapointed unless u are a bad keeper or happen to get an individual that is very unsocial, if you teach ure lizard to fear u at an early age or they never quite get used to humans (like mine) when they grow larger they will grow fangs and they will have teeth and it WILL bleed and be painfull since the teeth are somewhat diamond shaped

that will be all thanks.

****THE FRILL IS A NATURAL LAST RESORT DEFENSE MECHANISM IT IS NOT A PARTY TRICK****

Some that is pretty much common sense. If this was because of my thread than sorry if I got you angry but I didn’t say I was trying to make him frill up.

Well, I was asking because I wanted to know if I could take a picture when she is doing it. I see these picture where the frillies are doing it. I want my frilly to look cool too. I guess I just worded my thread wrong.

well heres my imput/all or most lizard are skiddish creatures /most don,t like attention as it is:however there has been cases of pet lizards becoming very close to there keepers /I have to agree that making your frilled dragon expose his neck is something that shouldn’t be a routine thing since it is a defensive mechanism. in the wild a frilly will display his frills and then run off /in a cage he displays his frills and then has no where to go except sit and stress wich can lead to death !!!! so any way one thing I,ve already learned when my frilly gets nervous I will isolate him in his viv, with a blanket /I use a red one cause for some reason my male has taken to that color at this time /fun huh! frilly,s seem to be a lot of work and money but it,s so rewarding to see him happy and fat!!!!yeah!!

I am a little confused about the blanket. You put it over the tank?

How can I make her frill? I brought her up to a mirror, Nope didn’t work. My dog came down, only for my mom

see now that kinda suggests you have tried to scare the lizard into frilling up

as mentioned in the other thread dont worry about the frilling up
