 9 month old frilly

I have a 9 month old frilly as some of you may know and she seems to be acting kind of fun she stills on this shelter I gave her and closes her eyes and it isn’t even night time. Could she be going through a growth spurt or something? Also, I need to turn up the temperature in her enclosure because it is to cold in there, could this be why? I am little worried not to worried because I think I can fix this. Also, how do I introduce her to foods like bananas. She is a bit thin.

Hi Reptiman123,
Happy to hear you have a new frilled dragon :) Can you answer some question so we know what you need to fix.
1 Have you had a fecal(poop) test done to make sure she doesn’t have parasites
2 what do you use to check the temp with ....basking spot , cage temp
3 what kind of lights are you using household bulbs, spotlight......
4 what kind of uvb light are you using MV, fluorescent long tube ....& what is the brand name also
What are you feeding her now? I would feed her crickets, superworms, silkworms. Sometime when they’re thin this can be do to parasites, when I first got my guy he was loaded with pinworm & coccidia
another problem can be not having the right temps (to cold) so if you can answer the ??? we can see what we can do to help.........DV

u wont need bananas as a staple in the diet. But your frilled lizard does sound ill so here we go:

whats ure tank size
tank type
ventilation amounts
humidity
substrate
temperatures
feeding schedulde
furnishings
water provided
wild caught or captive born animal
how long have you had it
how often have you handled her since getting her im talking specifically about the first week
heavily populated area
anything that could possibly stress the reptile
aproximate size (in feet)
uv lighting details
timer for the uv lighting

thats all i can think of for nowits 11.30PM here in the UK so i’ll reply at some point tomorrow

1 Have you had a fecal(poop) test done to make sure she doesn’t have parasites

No but I will. I should just take the sample to the vet right? Can I post a picture of her fecal? I actually think it looks funny

2 what do you use to check the temp with ....basking spot , cage temp?

I use a digital thermometer

3 what kind of lights are you using household bulbs, spotlight......

I use MV, a ceremic heat emitter and a infrared bulb.

What are you feeding her now? I would feed her crickets, superworms, silkworms. Sometime when they’re thin this can be do to parasites, when I first got my guy he was loaded with pinworm & coccidia
I feed her crickets and mealworms. Mealworms as a kind of substitute for the crickets when I don’t have any. I will start to feed her pinkies but I can’t get her to right now because she is still settling in.

Right now at the bottom of the cage (not where she basks) is 78F. I will check what the temperature is on her basking place (I didn’t actually make the basking place she can climb the walls of my cage and she just sits there and basks).

If you need to know anything else please just ask. Thanks!

I will post a good picture of her in a minute.

Hi brother :) how close does your dragon get to the MV lamp? There are some MV lamps being sold that can harm your FD eyes......your brother said,"she closing her eye." This can be the cause of her keeping them close. He also said her cage temps are on the cool side because of the screen cage. If you get heavy plastic and put it on the sides & back this will help keep the temps up leaving the front open BUT MAKE SURE IT’S AWAY FROM THE HOT LIGHTS or you will have a bigger problem and keep a watch on the temps so it doesn’t get to hot. Do you have a reptile vet? I would bring a fresh poop sample in to have tested too this can make her act sleepy. Make sure she’s drinking water to keep her hydrated......DV

 9 month old frilly

decent sized tank

get a solid tank those things really do little good.

too much ventalation

ok can you give me a number for your humidity?

repti carpet is a decent substrate not that i ever use it with any of my lizards or snakes.

ure temperatures are good not amazing but they will do just fine

maybe i shouldda been more clear on this bit by schedulde i mean do you feed daily and if so how much.

ure furnishing sounds good if they can get 12-6 inchs from there uv light

obviously water is a must so good that you provided

4 days isnt very long theres a chance its just stressed

you shouldn’t hold her for at least the first week at all puts a fair bit of strain on the lizard even if they dont show it

good that you have her isolated from everybody else in the house.

your dogs are a possibility try to keep them apart for a few weeks till she learns that the habitat is safe and that humans aren’t likely to eat her

ahh so she’s still relatively small, smaller reptiles tend to suffer stress to a worse degree but they always adjust better bare that in mind she will be 3 times as scared now but 3 times as tame and settled later

ide reccomend a uv strip bulb and fitting plus your ceramic heater (and heat mat) that would be it. I use that combination on all my lizards.

ide say get yourself a timer for that tank and give your lizard a 12 hour on and off photo period

No he dying to quick its already in his system I putting him in a new tank and giving him some care for his last days of his life. He loosing weight each day and doesn’t want to eat I even hand fed him. Should I force feed? The breeder who I got him from didn’t transport him the right way had no sign for the temps or have a heat pack he probably got a cold that has now got worse now. Ah man I feel so stupid! He was doing well eating crickets on the first day but started to not eat. I tried to hand feed him and that didn’t work. Please guys I need to do something fast a vet is to busy to see him now. Anyone please help my frilled lizard! I don’t want him to die because of my stupidity. Its happening quick so I need a quick response. He might die today! If I bring him in to vet he might die on the way from the cold. Its raining here and cold.

Get some chicken baby food. Take about 1/2 tes. of baby food add little sprinkle of calcium powder & little pedialyte (for fluids & electrolytes) use a feeding syringe(without the needle) or eye dropper and place a little on the tip of her nose to get her to lick it off the mix should be thin. Do the same with a eyedropper of 1/2 pedialyte & 1/2 water, drop mix on the tip of the her nose little at a time.I would try the water & pedialyte mix first to give her fluids. Give her warm(not hot) soaks to keep her from becoming dehydrated.Keep her warm. ....... The most importain thing is don’t give up!

I won’t but we are pretty sure she is dying because she is getting thinner everyday and today she barely moves. I saw her poops they look very bad. I am going to wait but I think she will die and I can’t really stop it. The parasites are probably to far inside of her body. I think the best thing now is to try and see if she can get through it.

ide reccomend wax worms as much as he/she will eat (u seem to alternate between these genders in ure post) full of fat it should help a little

by the way you dont really wanna feed on the first day best to wait a few days i think the logic is that the lizard associates food with a stressfull environment

My frill was a rescue very thin & weak couldn’t hold on to the branches, but I kept him watered & fed this way for about a month then he started eating & drinking on his own with a little help ,but now hes doing great. Even if she is thin & weak giving her water and food will help build her strength up a little at a time. If you want to try to save her you have to put the time in.
