 Unfriendly baby

I got this little guy about a month ago and as soon as he sees me or when i put my hand in the cage he takes off. Hes very afraid of me. Im thinkin this is not normal, and that I should be able to pick him up. Im starting to think hes a wildcaught baby? Anyone else have a nervous frill? If so did he/she calm down eventually?

I had one, and with careful handling she came around and is a sweetie now. I start by just letting her get use to my hand in her enclosure, then when she had I began to put my hand close to her, when she had gotten use to that I started touching her, on the tail, leg, back. Soon I was holding her in the enclosure a few seconds at a time, then a little longer until I could move my hand with her in it toward the door and at last outside the enclosure. It takes time but I think it’s was worth it.

Also I think frilleds are very territorial creatures. Thats his space your entering. But lelareed is absolutly right that you need to take it slow. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! These guys have colorful personalities and it would be a shame if yours was not socialized because you couldn’t hold it. It does take alot of time. You have a beautiful baby though!!!

I’m kind of in the same boat. I have a really small little guy that I’ve had for just over a month. He bolts whenever I go in the cage and he’s so small I am nervous about handling him. Whats the best way to go about it when he’s in a cage that is relatively small and he’s so young, still a hatchling. Should I just continue to hang out with my hand in the cage (I’ve tried holding a cricket and he pretty much said hell no!) Should I not worry about the handling until he’s a bit bigger and older?

Hes eating great.. he eats crickets, meal worms, baby super worms and butter worms.. Hes definitely a wild caught baby cuz I just found tons of little mites in his tank :S I dumped the substrate and put all the decorations in the freezer and gave him a bath. I have a million other reptiles.. now I’ll have to treat them all :( He wouldnt let me hold him at all , he kept squirming to get away.. I really hope he/she calms down

you have to wait till about month 3 and 4. they are so young and skittish at this age.

i just tamed one of mine, the female, both males are still a bit skittish but im focusing on them now. it takes months if not a year or so to gain trust. you cant just put your hand in every time and try to grab them. try hand feeding. and try petting their chin . do this for about a month and then start trying to pick her up. talk to her . calm her . wait till she stopps wiggling then just let her purch apon your hand, realizing that she is not in danger

i was on good terms with my oldest male but my dog scared him once and since then he’s went back to hating me.

remember a frill dragon naturally is a scared animal. look at its defense. it frills up and runs away as fast as it can. that what it wants to do by nature. so its going to take a while to get usto you. be patient and you’ll soon be rewarded
