Feeding issue
My name is Steve and I’m new here. I picked up Frankie my first lil Frilled Dragon from our local expo on Oct 4th. He wasn’t eating at all, I tried everything (supers, meals, crix, roaches, butters, wax) and nothing worked. I checked out "Sick or stuborn frill care sheet" by 87rx7chick and read numerous other threads/posts and had my enclosure just right. He was pooping daily and having baths so he seemed to be ok, just not eating, at least not infront of me. There also weren’t too many crix disappearing from his enclosure. I had left some in there hopin he might eat them, but I also tried using a seperate feeding tank. Nothing worked!! Finally on Saturday morn Frankie decided to eat the 3 baby roaches I offered in the lil dish. So I grabbed more and he gobbled them up. So the awesome news is that for the past 4-5 feedings he’s been downing 10-15 lil roaches. Although I’m exstatic that he’s now eating regularily, this poses a problem for me. I’ve only recently started my roach colony and won’t be able to pull from it till its established sometime in Jan-Feb. I really can’t afford to pull 30+ babies/day from my colony. I tried coolin crix down so they wouldnt jump around, put some suppliments on, then mixed them in with the roaches in the dish. The lil bugger picked the roaches out from between the crix. And when a cricket accidently got in his mouth he quickly spit it out! So my dilema is, how the heck do I get him to eat something other then the roaches? Unfortunately due to being in Canada the roaches arent easily available :( I’m also plannin to start raisin silks and horns but that is gonna take some time. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. I’d be open to anything at this point. Thanks for your time and I appreciate your input. Cheers! -Steve |

I have lobster roaches if you want some, you just have to pay the shipping....... the roaches are free! I need to down size my colony (way to many). PM me for more info if interested. Denise |

crickets, if left in over night can create a phobia. or fear of crickets. they tend to bite and chew on the frill while the frill sleeps. thats not very nice :( so the dragon gets afraid of them. you should try a bowl of super worms (never regular meal worms as they are almost all shell) super worms are about 5$ for 100. or you can bulk order i recomend not feeding to much out of your roach bin. let that get established. try supers and try wax worms even. but remember if buying from a pet store always open up the container after you shook it up and dont buy if you see ANY dead ones in there. its ok to see a few black wax worms but never dead super worms... no good! fluker farms sells hissing cockroaches for cheep. but they climb glass. so you have to smear olive oil on the top of your bin every few months. -jessica |

Cockroaches are illegal in Canada so unfortunately I don’t have easy access. I was lucky enough to find someone willing to help me start my own colony who’s located in Canada. Thanks for the offer though Denise! |
