 Frilled is Burrowing...

Hi all!

I am new to the site and need some advice.

My Frilled dragon, Cloud, has been doing something odd lately. He is used to the reptile carpet-like substrate that we had used for him since we obtained him. recently we moved in to a new condo and his old substrate was temporarily replaced with a Bark substrate that he really seemed to love. (We do not feed him in his enclosure as we have feeding troughs for our beardies.)

Anyways, he rounds up in a coil and buries himself under the bark (almost completely buries himself) after he is done basking in the morning. He coils up in the space under his lifted log where he basks. It is the only semi-secluded place in the enclosure and I really don’t know what to make of this behavior.

Please let me know if this is something I should be concerned about. It is to the point now that he only comes out when he knows it is time to eat or if I change his water.

Not sure if it helps but his cage is kept at 76-80 degrees F at the cool side of the tank and around 90-95 Degrees F at the basking side.

check the humidity . humidity should be 50-65, 65 being ideal. if its less then 45% then thats probably your issue.

it could also be the fact that new home is causing stress. try putting a towel on the front of the enclosure. and misting daily if not 2 times a day untill you can figure your humidity out. i like to use plexi on screen enclosures to reduce the amount of air escaping and thus humidity escaping. but you also must let the enclosure dry out . soak everything and see how long it takes for the enclosure to dry out completely. could be half a day could be 3-4 days. you dont want everything soaked in there for more then 2-3 days or else mold and mildew will form. so if you have to much dampness u got to little ventilation. if your enclosure dries out to quick you have to much ventilation :)

on my 100 gallon tank i have only 20% of the top actually vented. on my 130 gallon tank i have only 5% of the whole tank vented but because of its design i installed computer fans to blow air into the thin strip of screen.

i have 65% daily with drying out periods that take 2 days to achieve. this is ideal!!!! hope this helps!!!
