 UVB to close ????

Ok so on the UVB light can it be to close to the animal at any given time ???? i have the 5.0 18 inch tube but my frill can get really close to it at times when he hangs out on some branches he can get as close as 2 to 3 inches from it. is this to close ???? usually hes about 6 inches from it on his usuall hang outs but there has ben times where he has spent all day right next to the uvb between 2 to 3 inches away. is this bad ?? should i move the light furthere from him ???



this is pretty much how the set up is with the uvb light i have done a couple changes. here are the changes.



as you can see the branche he is at in the second picture is about 5 to 6 inches from the uvb so that one is fine but he can still get with in 2 inches if he likes. is it bad ???

An animal can get too close to a UVB and it is recommended that they get no closer than 4 inches and no further than 8. How often does he go that close to the bulb?

not sure how often, but i know when he does he spends alot of time right by it. To be safe i will pull the light off and move it a little further from those spots. thanx for the info.

You can also adjust the branch but idk which would be an easier option for you

uvb 5 is much safer then uvb10.

that thing is inefective past about 18 inches. at about 12 inches its prob only 22 microwatts of uvb which is like being under a tree in the shade on a sunny day.

compact bulbs have higher lumen output because they are high output so they have a greater reach. thats why they are a lil more dangerous when you put them to close.

Well as i do every week, i moved some more stuff around lol, i moved the UVB light to the back of the enclosure, i got rid of the shelf and added a new tree branch. this branch lets him get with in about 6 inches of the UVB if he likes but he cant get no closer, his backing spot is about 8 to 10 inches from it now. so i think i should be safe. next step is the substrate im going to takle that next week come tax time. ill be building new enclosure for the rest of my rep’s. a 3 in one so everyone is going to get changed over to a organic top soil mix with coconut hust fiber.

So here is how my cage is at this very moment !!! Still need to get some kichen drawer paper or wallpaper for the floor then put my coconut hust and topsoil miz on top of it. using the drawer paper so the water does not soak trew the substrate to the wood bottom. and that way it last longer also since im still having to misst alot to keep the humidity up. Well here it is.



oh yeah also i took you advice on getting the hidrometer thing from wallmart and as you can see i stuck it in the middle of the cage is this a good spot for it or can i stick it up in a corner somewhere. im just wondering. Oh and i have a reading on the temps, the lowest cool spot is about 74 f. and the basking spot is at 105 f. moststly in the cage its about 78 to 80 f.
