 VERY Skidish Frilled Dragon

I rescued a frilled dragon around 6 months ago. She is so skidish i cant even clean her tank without her charging me and frilling me, i would really rather not touch her to stress her out, but i do have to do maintenance with her. Like weigh her, feed her, clean her tank, make sure her temps are good. But i cant do any of those things with out her attacking me. Is there anything i can do to change this? I really do not want to stress her out, or hurt her. Any advice would help.

Thanks,
Jenn

well... some frills are just like this....

if she is eating well on her own i wouldnt worry to much. just accept her for who she is, she is a rescue after all who knows what she’s been threw.

you can take her out , weigh her, do what you would like with her. it may stress her but you have to do what you have to do to make sure she’s healthy right?

try covering the front of her enclosure so she cant see out. make her feel more secure in her enclosure.

i have 2 males that are kind of like this but they frill then run away. they dont really try to bite. i have sailfin dragons that may attack. i wear gloves around them. i let them charge at me. they run out of their enclosure. i catch them and place them into a bin. i then clean their enclosure and then put them back in. i only have 2 sailfins that do this. its just what you have to do for reptiles that are like this.

i DID have a female like this. she would freak out at me. i didnt bother her for a whole year and a half. i would feed her change her water but i would NEVER touch her or attempt to touch her. after a long while she eventually realized i was not going to hurt her, and that i wouldnt touch her when i opened her enclosure. she usto be afraid that every time she saw my hand , she thought i was going to pick her up. if every time she sees your hand you try to pick her up she’ll be afraid.

it may take a long while to gain her trust. my female frill likes me now, this one i have had since she was a hatchling and went threw the same phase of hating my gutts, but now i can pick her up with out much fuss. all because i just left her alone for a long while and only handled her when it was absolutely required.

all lizards dont make good "pets" not all lizards want to be interacted with.

Yeah i agree with you on that one. I think i may have worded my question wrong, i could care less if she liked me. I just wanted to know if there was any way possible i could make her more comfortable when doing these things tht i have to do. And i dont hand feed her, if that is the intent you got. Im not kidding, if i go in to grab her food dish for some worms, or throw in some crickets she will frill me and charge. I have no clue how old she is, becuz i rescued her full grown. She was in a box, that you could barely fit her in, with a basking spot and a basking light, at least she had that much. Filthy conditions, on calcium sand. Hip bones and spine showing. Shes absolutely gorgeous now, and honestly i just love looking at her, like i said i could care less if she hated me. The really funny thing about her is, if i walk by her tank she wont frill, if i scratch her belly through the screen when shes hanging there, she wont frill. Its only when i open those tank doors. I am really not comfortable leaving her alone for so long, not knowing her weight and all. I keep very very close charts on my reptiles weights. But none the less, if you have any step by step pointers i would love to hear them, i could suffer not weighing her for her to be comfortable with me doing these necessary tasks.
