 My new Frilly

So here is my story. I have been wanting a frilly for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time. My wife decided to surprise me for my b-day with a frilled hatchling. Hes awesome and Im so happy I got him just a little worried about him thought I would ask other frilly owners a few question.

When he came in I got him out and he seems very skinny (base of tail bone protruding, ribs visible, very skinny legs). He also has like maybe a scratch down his spine? He is active however and ate maybe a dozen to a dozen and a half crickets.

Hes also very dark in color to me anyways. Im ganna post these pictures and see what you guys say. This is my first frilled and Im a little worried about my reptiles when they first get home as babies. Just please let me know what you think.

This is the spot on his back I was talking about.

Here is the color i was talking about You can see his right arm is normal color Im not sure if its just a shed or what.

Im ganna post these for now if you need a better picture of the tail bone protruding let me know But that Im pretty sure hes just under fed and I know how to fix that.

Please give me any info you can on what you think I have reseached for months before buying him/her.
Thanks!

Congrats on the new frilly!

He looks like an Indonesian import special unfortunately (it’s always better to buy captive-bred), so he might be some extra work. It looks like he has a retained skin shed. (The spot on his back is mostly likely just roughed up extra skin.) It often happens when they’re imported because of low humidity conditions, dehydration, & stress. Let him settle in, keep the humidity high, and start giving him baths when you feel they won’t stress him out more. You can spray him with water as well if he doesn’t mind. Most importantly, make sure he’s well hydrated. A syringe or eye dropper can be helpful since most won’t drink out of a bowl.
Keep ambient temperatures warm and give him lots of time to settle in, best of luck!

 My new Frilly

Well here is an update. The shed is starting to release and hes seems to be happy. Hes eating well and when I put my hand in his cage he runs to it and jumps on. I’m not sure if that is normal for a frilly or not but he seems very personable. I have given him a bath and doesn’t seem to mind it much seems like he may enjoy it actually. He frilled for the first time last night when he seen my iguana. Was kinda funny seeing as he was on my hand and doing nothing other then frilling with mouth open and not moving lol. I love this little guy and hope all turns out well cause I have heard imports don’t make it in captive. Please post more comments if you have any info or help for me thanks!

Also where I bought him they said he was bread and hatched captive. There also are some shady people in the reptile business I know that.

Good to hear, hope he continues to look better. Some are more personable than others, sounds like you got a good one. Do the best you can for him, regardless of where he came from. It seems like he’s off to a good start. They grow quickly, be ready to have a large enclosure for him soon.

i have owned imports before with no issues. so long as you get them young, yours looks young enough to not have to worry, even if he was an import. he sounds like he’s doing great! keep the temps up 80-95 and he’ll be happy. they love it warm , they usually hang out where its about 95-105 degrees.
the tail does look kind of thin but honestly thats how frills look, their hip bones do stick out a bit but its fine so long as they have meat on their bone, fat in their tail and are eating well. you may want to take a fecal into the vet just to check for anything abnormal. flagellates are something to treat, pinworms are normal.

he sounds like a cutie :) congrats!
