Picky eater
Till now I always thought and heard that goldfish were an excellent staple food item, and have feed them to my water dragon for a long time with no ill effects. However my water dragon also eats meal worms, and earthworms on a regular basis (she hates crickets also). I didn’t think this could cause a problem for my frilly though because goldfish are lower in fat than pinkies, have more nutrients than crickets and meal worms or other invertebrates, they are a really good source of calcium, and although they do have a higher fat content than invertebrates it tends to be the healthy kind of fat. Even my vet has told me that goldfish are a great food source (vet specializes in exotic reptiles/birds/mammals). As of right now my Frilly is doing great, he is growing fast, has lots of energy, and I want to keep it that way. First off how concerned should I be about him refusing to eat other food types, and how should I go about getting him to eat other foods? As of right now he doesn’t touch the crickets and meal worms in his cage. If I I try and slip him any while he is eating a goldfish, he just them spits it right out. I could adopt the tough love method and just not feed offer him goldfish anymore, though I would hope there might be a better way. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
