Constipated pacman frog
I have a female pacman frog who I am pretty sure is constipated or impacted. I dont think she has swallowed any substrate, since she never feeds in her tank. But she has not pooped after the last couple times I’ve fed her. Other than that, she acts normally. She eats, sheds, looks healthy. I’ve heard you can use lactulose on pacman frogs to help with constipation. Should I use this? And if so, how would I go about administering it? Thanks for your help! |

First lets insure your frog needs anything.... How long has it been?... Many pacman especially can go up to a month without waste.... It depends on diet.. What are you feeding? The more fatty the diet the more digestion takes... Heat is the main help for digestion.... Are your temps correct? There are many easier remedies.... Before putting them all here I would rather be sure she needs them first as all sounds normal to me but need a time line.. HOPPY |

Are those feeder fish considered fatty? We fed our young pacman one about a week ago, maybe more, and he has not taken any crickets since. He still looks plump and clear eyes, just hasn’t eaten. Could he still be digesting the fish? (Sorry for the little hijack there.) |

Fish aren’t normally considered fatty.... They would be filling compared to crix though if this is a first time feed of fish... A young frog would find it filling for a few days as if eaten say 6 crix... Usually what most forget is when frogs arrive at their local shop they are super hungry after travel or some wild caught... So when food is offered at first once settled into eating they eat with gusto. Then all of a sudden they realize food is plentiful (a month usually) so they become sluggish on eating. This is a good thing as most would over eat. In the wild food is a by chance thing and only comes along when opportunity arises so they grab what they can... It sounds to me like yours is in this catagory.... Give it another week and see if his appetite comes back again...Offer food every day or every 2nd day regardless to see if he will take it... You may of read of prolapse...generally a disease associated with over eating habits or too large at one feeding of food.. HOPPY |
