 Protecting Fake Plants

We have a very minimally decorated enclosure for our PacMan. He is in a 10g for now (will upgrade as he grows) with a somewhat shallow corner water dish, and a big fake plant. We had a branch in there but found it only got in the way as he hunted. When we removed the log (which was a store bought reptile log labeled okay for tropical terrariums) it had began molding, so it was trashed. To prevent the wood base on the new fake plant from molding as well I put it into a snug fitting ziplock bag and tied off the top right at the base of the plant stems and trimmed the ziplock closure. In his recent substrate replace (bed-a-beast), it seems like the crickets have chewed holes in the plastic bag.

What is a better way to protect the base of this plant without the crickets getting through and causing moisture to get in?

I guess maybe you could cover it with aquarium cement or something like that.
Are you putting food in there for the crickets? If they’re hungry they’ll chew on anything, including frogs.
