 African Clawed Frog Diet

My African Clawed Frog is on a main food diet of bloodworms, has been since I got im.

Just wondering if something like guppies would be fine to replace as a food. I switched to a larger tank to accomodate his growing needs, but he’s kinda dumb with bloodwoms, and only eats from my finger/off a stick or if they’re in midwater, never off the tank floor..

And since the tank is bigger, it means more mess. And like most ACFs he makes a huge mess when they’re all over the floor. So I was thinking of just switching to guppies or frozen brine shrimp.. just something bigger and not as plentiful as bloodworms. I hate em. Is it still suiting for dietary needs?

ACFs have a hard time seeing anything that is not above them. Just look at where their eyes are located! I feed my 2 guppies, trout worms, and earthworms. I tried pellets but they always sunk to the bottom. I feed bloodworms once in a while if I can get them to float. I tried crickets but they didn’t move much when placed in the water so they totally ignored them.

I dangle the worms in the water and they come up to take them by hand. It’s fun to watch them chase the guppies around the tank. They don’t care what is in the way and have redecorated their tank every time guppies are there.

I feed mostly pellets, I just bascially aim for her head when I drop them in and she gets most of them. If it touches her head or hands she just eats it up. Guppies are great though, I would feed her that too for variety, but I feel bad for the fish (I don’t feed vertabrates to either of my frogs).

I’ve heard of lots of ACFs on a pellet diet.. What kind of pellets would I feed?
I’ll at least try the pellets, but will most likely definately switch over to guppies.

Thanks for the replies

I actually use HBH newt and salamander bites because they’re bigger than the frog ones and they have the same ingredients. I also used to use shrimp pellets to switch it up a little, but I haven’t bought those in a while.

You should try to use fresh foods such as guppies, crickets, and earthworms, but if you want something easy to keep around for when you’re in a hurry, freeze-dried tubifex worms aren’t bad. Moisten a cube with a dab of water, pinch it around just enough to soften it a little, and feed. I don’t reccomens any of the canned foods as a main diet, including tubifex, but it’s a very handy thing to keep on the shelf for when you need it. or even just for when you’ve been giving him so many crickets, guppies, and earthworms that you just want to mix things up a bit.
