 Looking for pet frog...

i want a frog (tree frogs are too noisy ) at first i wanted a pacman frog but the though of frogs eating mice is just wrong (snakes are fine) but i want a frog that is not fully aquatic or if there’s any quite tree frogs that’d great. it would be even better if it was a holdable frog.

amphibians are not meant to be held..

they absorb things through their skin, (i.e. perfums, lotions, or any products that you may have come in contact with on your hands could potentially harm them.. ), the only time they should be held is for weekly/monthly health inspections...

their skin can also tear easily...

White’s tree frogs make good, hardy first frogs..

but again, there are no "meant to be held" amphibians...

good luck in your search..

If you want something you can hold, I’d stick with mammals like a rat or hamster, cat or dog. Reptiles and amphibians have specific enironmental needs and shouldn’t really be taken out of that regularly.

Definitely don’t get a pacman, they’re not holdable at all...they’re a look, don’t touch species. Whites tree frog is a good starter, but still, shouldn’t be petted or walked or anything like that.

the tomatos are great
they are really quite ( barley ever hear them)
ive been keeping them on damp eco-earth
they have bright color and very gentle
and you can hold them.... not very fond of being held , but you can hold them
the only thing is they produce a mucus when stressed or threatenen that you just have to make sure you wash your hands after hold them

 Looking for pet frog...

Hi ya mate i’ll recomend the bombina fire belly toad, there cheap as far as toads go there real easy to take care of they will sit on ya hand but as people have said it aint recomended i’ve just cahnged my tank to 50/50 an they love it as they hop in an out of the water an spend all the time on the bottom of the tank so you’ll always see them. I have also the tomato, Great frog he grows big though he’s quite a character just watch his size? I have also a peacock frog he’ll just hop on the top of the tank if you’ve got ya tank right he’ll croak niceish noise. an i have two tree frogs there not noisy though an you wont see them much they’ll just blend in with the greenery.

Be aware if you are gonna mix, it aint recomended i have but i’m told if you do you must make sure that all the frogs or toads you put together are 1 the same size an 2 that they are compatible an not aggressive with other varieties of frogs an toads.

Any probs get back to me.

If you’re worried about noise, get a female.

I would reccomend an oriental fire bellied toad, or if you’re looking for a bit more challenging and exspensive animal, you could try your hand at Poison Dart Frogs. All amphibians are non holdable as they breathe through their skin, so your natural skin oils/soap etc will end up in your frog. If you want a social reptile youy could try a bearded dragon.

American toad, I have one and they are real easy to take care of, I mean he’s wild caught but he took to his tank real nicely. you can sex them buy holding them with 2 fingers right under the 1st set of legs. If they croak, it’s a male. They are real cute and chomp up all sorts of bugs.

I personally would NOT recomend a Dart Frog to a begginner. They require high humidity, live plants, various light needs for the plants and frogs themselves, and generally are not as forgiving. They are also quite expensive.

I however have had luck with Fire Bellies. I have 2 in a 20 gallon tall. They are great with cool personalities. I have a 1:3 setupwith plenty of plants for them to hang out on in the water because the majority is aquatic. They have many of the benefits of dart frogs with their bright bellies but once again are not holdable because they Are toxic. Then again, setting up a live plant tropical tank has great visual affects. I have one 29g tropical one with live plants but no animal yet. I’ll probably get a pair of anoles when spring comes around.
