Read the bag carefully and make sure there are no pesticdes or ferterlizer mixed in it.

 Peat moss

It’s my favorite substrate for moist terraria, but you have to make sure you don’t have an animal that’s accidentally eating a lot of it. It can clump up in the intestines instead of passing and form deangerous impactions. If you’re hand-feeding, tong-feeding, feeding in a seperate container, or using a food dish for prey items that are willing to stay contained, then it’s great stuff because it’s soft and antibacterial. If they’re going to be chomping crickets off of it on a regular basis, though, it gets risky. Most of the outdoors is not covered by loose, fluffy little pieces of moss, and because it’s so absorbant their digestive acids often just make it swell for a while instead of just pushing it out. When I say it’s my favorite, it’s because I raise nonclimbing roaches, so the food dish thing is no problem. If you’e relying on pet shop crickets, they’ll never stay in a dish, so you’ll proably be better off using Eco-Earth and doing more bedding changes.
