Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? My dumpy frog will not eat. I see no visible signs of a problem. Does anyone know of a appetite stimulant for amphibs that would be helpful?? I tried changing his diet from crickets to waxworm, but it would’nt eat it. Back to crickets with little progress. Thanks

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? How often are you feeding him? A week off food for a healthy WTF is occasionally a good thing. They are an overweight tree frog and can go for some time without food. Keeping them hungry is the best way to keep them eating.

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? Thanks for the reply....when it was healthy it could eat about 2-3 crickets about twice a week. Now it is extremely thin eating only one cricket in the last 2 1/2 weeks. It has had a bowel movement, so no worry of impactment.Do you know of any appetite stimulant that is safe for amphibs??

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? Sounds like your frog is sick. Getting him to eat will not get him better. It’s possible he has a wide range of things from parasites, to fungual infection, to bacteria. Get a fecal done at a vet, or get some pictures of him posted up. Aside from not eating are there any other symptoms showing themselves? If he’s wasting away you need to figure out why.
Pedialyte (unflavored) is a soak I use for recovering frogs to boost appetite. This will not fight off illness though.

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? ShOe...i do appreciate your help, thanks. Last night I did notice for the first time that it does have an infection of some sort in the upper thigh area. It is white, a bit swollen. I spoke with someone at a petsmart store and they suggested lancing it to clean out the infection. I am hesitant to do this, unsure that I could keep it from getting infected even more after draining it. Have you ever done something like this before?? Hoping to save this frog.....and then maybe the ped.soak would be helpful. thanks again!!!!

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? Yeah, if you’ve never done something like that before that’s piss poor advice to be given. A vet would be your best option if you can find one that would deal with frogs. If not then try to get a picture of it posted here. It sounds to me like a bacterial infection though. You can get baytril from any vet, it’s an antibiotic for dogs usually. I think that 1cc of Baytril per 1 gal of water is a good dossage to treat most frogs. You can use that gallon for 7-10 days, just spray the frog down with it. Baytril will cost you around $40. You could also try to use fish medications like neomycin capsulses. There is a herp vet I trust that will perscribe you meds over email consultation, but you’ll need some pictures at least or just talk to him about the condition of your frog.

Along with medication I would try the pedilyte soaks. 50/50 mix with clean water is fine.

Dumpy frog won’t eat, help? I wouldn’t lance an infection. I’m not a vet or professional but I did learn in my first aid class that lancing something poses a risk for an even worse infection. If it does need to be lanced, get it done by a professional.
