 Frog siblings

Does anyone know if frog (bullfrog I think) siblings mate with each other?

they can and will. They don’t recognize family. Once they reach sexual maturity if no other mates are available they will if the situation is right. Most frogs require a period of cooling and then after they’re warmed back up you’ll need to put them into a rainchamber together to induce amplexus.

Thanks so much for the info! Mine are in a small backyard pond and they are all siblings. I thought I saw a bro and sis mating the other day but I wasn’t sure if they, you know, did that. How long does it take bullfrogs to reach sexual maturity? Mine only became froglets in late summer of 2009, so I would think they are still too young. Maybe they were just "practicing" (he he). Thanks again, and I would appreciate any more info you have to give!

Depends more on size rather than time. Food quality, quantity, and genetics come into play as well. Bulls are a hardy frog and are everywhere. Inbreeding will weaken the genetics of any offspring, but with your small pond that isn’t going to really be an issue. I wouldn’t worry about it, plus you don’t know for certain they are related unless you are positive with the identity of all frogs. It could have been two males too, overly eager males will sometimes make mistakes, to the surprise and annoyance of the boy on the bottom. If there is other bodies of water around you then your frogs might head for greener ponds, and/or you might get some new bulls looking for new mates as well.
