 Pacman frog Hibernating or dead?

I know that I am not supposed to try and unburey him (if he is hibernating) due to shocking him out of hibernation. But before I noticed that he staying buried longer than normal I did notice that he was not eating very much. He would become a bit slower than normal snapping at crickets. He has been buried for about 3 days so far. The temp is at 79 and humidity is around 65.

So to unbury or not?

well hybernation for pacman frogs is usually due to colder weather. just use a heat lamp os somthing and warm up the tank alot to about 85 degreese, and mist the tank alote, and it should come out soon. i read to do that on the internet, and i tried it, and my frog came out of hybernation 45 mintues later. my frog was in hybernation for 2 months, and i was searching what to do and i found that.

Still no luck... I resorted back to adding a hand towle to the top of the tank to hold in the heat. He is only 3/4 of an inch round so for now he is in a 5 gallon tank. I know I will need a bigger one once he grows.

79 is a bit low and might be the cause of his lethargy/burying himself.....It might be a good idea to bump up the temps a bit.......(I use a heater on the side of my 10 gallon tank, and am also using a red overhead lamp.)

Well i just looked at the bottom of the tank and saw that he was still breathing. All day today the temp has been at or around 83 with 70 humidity.

How can i keep all of the soil moist for him while he is hibernating?

here is a picture of his set up.

here is a newer pet im working with. Still no name yet but look to release him when he gets full grown. Probably should add that it is a Bullfrog tadpole...

he or she isnt that big but this picture sure says otherwise! haha

Where are you releasing the bullfrog please remember in some places they are considered pests and they often hurt the other frogs near that environment

sounds like you are having the same problem i had. the tank is too cold for him. use a heat pad if you dont have one. also I added a hide for him and he’s been alot better ever since. I also went back to the store where I got him and the guy told me that you have to sprinkle water on him once a day or he dries out since the humidity has nothing to do with the frog itself. After you sprinkle him you should notice him comeing out of his hiding spot and looking alot happier at night. hope this helped if you have any questions about how my tank is set up i can email you pics
