If you choose to have the smaller frog i would go with the --Whites Tree Frog-- SETUP---for a fully grown whites tree frog i would choose a plastic, tall ten gallon tank- you are not looking for floor space for this frog as it is an arboreal frog. It highly recommended that you get some fake plants and suction cup them to the top of the cage as these frogs like to climb. For substrate i would recomend cocoa fiber (coconut fiber) and moisten it with plenty of water, because this holds moisture very well. I would suggest misting the enclosure maybe once a day or once every two days. TEMPERATURE/LIGHTING-these frogs need a temperature around 76-83 degrees, if your house is too cold i would suggest using a 50 watt night bulb and a digital thermometer too check that it is working properly. Also as long as you supplement your frog it will not need any UVA/UVB lighting DIET-when juvenile these frogs should be fed two appropreatly sized crickets everday. Supplement these crickets every other feeding with nutrient powder. When adult feed them 3 appropreatly sized crickets every two days and suplpement every third or so feeding (one a week) overall the whites tree frog is a great begginer frog but i will describe my personall favorite frog. My favorite frog is the Pacman frog, also known as the argentine horned frog. This frog is quite small when first aquired, about the size of a quarter to the size of silver dollar, Although they are tiny when you buy them they will eventually get to the size of a small plate. No need to worry, these frogs do not need a lot of room becuase on a daily bases they tend to not move. They normally hollow out a hole in their substrate and sleep all day untill you take them out to feed,,, alright enough with my description ill tell you their needs now --Pacman(argentine horned) frog--My personal favorite i highly suggest it SETUP--these frogs will need a 10 gallon aquarium, you can go larger but it is unecesary as these frogs dont move much. For substrate you will need cocoa fiber soaked in water, makes sure it isnt pooling, but is very moist. There should be about 1-2 inches of substrate for juveniles and 2-3 inches for adults. You need a wide, short, shallow water bowl. This is needed because even though these guys are frogs they are very bad swimmers and have been known to drown in deep water bowls, you can use fake plants to make them feel more secure but its not necesary TEMPERATURE/LIGHTING---they need a temp between 78 and 85 degrees, is temp in house is lower than that use a 50 watt night bulb to maintain the correct temperature DIET--juveniles should be fed a varied diet, either feed them 2-3 appropreatly sized crickets a day or one meal or dew worm and one wax worm a day. When they reach 2.5 -3 inches they can eat one pinky every day or two but should eat one wax or meal worm every other day, because pinkies are very fatty. When adult these frogs will be eating one adult, full size mouse every two days or so, they can be live or frozen/thawed, but i high suggest prekilled because live can inflict damage to the frog Although many people refuse to get this frog as a pet due to its size, the size of this animal does not make it hard to care for, in fact it is easier to care for this frog than it is the whites tree frog---i hope this helps in your quest to get a new amphibious friend, goodluck |

If you get a male he’ll vocalize at night, which is a good way to know they’re doing okay in there. Also, male horned frogs are significantly smaller than females. Only about as big around as a beer can, sometimes even less. |
