 Pacman, possible impaction?

Hi, this is my first post in the forums... but I’ve used them often in the past, and always find everyone’s comments a good source of info :)
Ive had my pacman from, Thor, for about 4 months now, and everything has been going well. I feed him a few mealworms every other day (or whenever he decides to eat) but recently he hasnt pooped any. I use T-rex brand jungle bed from the pet store, so its possible im just not seeing it... but he used to poop in the water dish, and he hasnt done that in some time. he is also eating much less, and many times refuses to eat; hence, I think he may be impacted.
Is there any sort of medicine/ curative i could give him that could potentially help? ive heard of using mineral oil, is that done? Id really like some help on this (or any insights in general) as I am worried about him :(
thanks for your help

I’m sorry to hear about your pacman my first one died from impaction, i didnt know what to do then, and i dont really know alot more now, but you should probably take it to the vet and tell them what you think is wrong. i have heard of feeding the frog somekind of oil to help it pass the impaction, and i have also heard that mealworms were bad for frogs. i fed my first pacman meal worms and he ended up dying from impaction, so maybe switch to crickets and see if those go down easier. you should probably just take it to the vet just incase.

yeah ive been feeding him only mealworms; I tried crickets initially, but he wouldnt eat them. Im going to try them again for sure, but in the meantime I need to get him fixed up.
I dont live anywhere near a vet, nor do I really have the means to pay for a vet visit; is there any other possible way that I can try? what about a small amount of human laxative, etc? What medicines have been prescribed for frogs from the vets with this, and is it over the counter?
thanks again

Hunter There are two things you can try right away.
  • Give him a soak in warm water for about 30 minutes. No deeper than halfway up his body.
Second, you can try feeding him a small amount of olive, mineral or cod oil If he’s midly constipated one of these two things should get him *moving*
If he still hasn’t used the bathroom, a trip to the vet is in order because it may be something other than impaction like internal parasites.

Hope froggy gets to feeling better soon. Please give us an update when you can

I tried those two things without any success, butI luckily did find an exotic animal et near my home, so I went ahead and brought him in; the Vet gave me some pudding-like solution he mixed to help him pass, and im supposed to give it to him about every 3 hours. Done it about 4 times now with no success, hopefully this will work :( Once I get a stool sample I’m supposed to bring it in so he can be checked for parasites.
thanks for your help again, ill update once I find something out.
Ill post later when we get some results

yo yo, i got a albino, and he barely ever craps (2 times/ month), and i read all this 2-3 day bm schedule which i think is BS, because as of late iv been noticing that it seems like not many do. CRICKETS ARE WAC COMPARED TO FISH (or even friggn mice ), nutri/ vit = 0, so feed fish.

Actually he finally started pooping again. I took him to the vet, the vet gave him an enema, and he pooped almost immediately; he then went a few days w/o pooping again, so, on the vet’s advice, i gave him about 1ml of ’lax ’aire’ laxative for cats and dogs which did the trick; he pooped ALOT, so I gather that he’s alright now. I’ve also been giving him a mix of vetasyl (fiber-like medicine), a/d soft cat/dog food, and water via a plastic syringe; its basically a really soft fibrous food that can be easily digested. I thought he was a goner, but he’s pulled out of it :) If anyone else is having possible impaction problems, feel free to email/ message me and ill give you detailed instructions on what the vet recommended to me.
