 Animal Abuse please read (disturbing pics not for everyone)
Last friday i got off of work early because it was a long week end because of the masters tournament. I went down the street when I got home to see the puppies my neighbor had and when I arrived I went in to see the puppies. after a few minutes of talkingt to Valerie (the woman who owns the house) Her 18 year old son ran through the house screaming about finding a snake in the front yard and he was goung to shoot it with a pellet gun. I ran after him. He chased the poor harmless garter snake all the way to the back of his property before he pinned her to the ground, beatr her with the tip of the gun(breaking several ribs) and then, ignoring my protests to this horrible treatment of a snake, put the gun to her eyescale and shot her. Twice. At first I thought she was dead, and refrained from throttling Chad. then she twitched her tail and i picked up her bloody body, and ran to my house where I washed her off in the sink, and wrapped her in warm towels until she came out of shock. a few days later, after i had removed the dead tissue in and around her eye, I tried to feed her a pinky. She was in terested and tried to eat, but seemed to be in pain everytime she opened her mouth. I took her out and opened her mouth, and lo and behold, the inner left jaw (same side as the blown out eye) was broken. pretty much just snapped in two. and the air pipe and back of the throught were badly bruised(red and purple in colouration). soo, I chopped up a worm for her and she gladly ate the softened food. this is a horrible treatment of a snake and I wanted to know your opinions on this. (I took her to the vet and got antibiotics)

he tried to cut her tail off
the saddest thing was, she was pregnant and because of the stress gave birth prematurely. 8 of the nine babies died before being born, and one baby lived for a few hours then died.

Oh my gosh i cant believe it survived, but im glad it did. I am glad you are taking good care of it and you should definately go and woop the crap out of that woman. That is horrible. And the worst part is that by her trying to kill one thing she killed 10 snakes! That made me angry. Well im glad to see that there are good people out there. I am very proud of you, you are my new idol.

That is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. I wish that they could face some charges after killing a reptile. It’s sad how people think of snakes as the only good snake is a dead snake. If they would give snakes just 1 chance, they would see that they are not the monsters they thought of them to be. I hope that you can convert her out of that pain and heal her. They don’t know why snakes are here. They don’t know that they eat the vermins in our house and help us. It’s just like any other animal that god put on earth here, even ants have A pupose on this world. It makes me even more sad that she was pregnant,and that kid practically killed 9 snakes. Why can’t they just give the animal that they hate one chance? you did the right thing to heal that animal. God bless you.
P.S,if it lives, I think it would be best if you kept it. She would be too used to a tank, that it would send her into a state of shock, and would be waiting for someone to feed her.

It is sad what some people do but I’m amazed is survived. Just don’t let this turn you off to all airguns/airgunners there really are some good people out there in that hobby as well. I’ve owned an airgun many years, I’ve shot a couple turkey, no snakes though. About the keeping it. I would check state laws some states require you to keep any animal you’ve had in captivity for over 30 days (introduction of disease). Snakes, lizards etc never get so used to captivity though this shouldn’t be a worry.

I agree if people would only give snakes a chance they can see how wonderful they are im glad to hear the snake lived sorry for the babies the snake is lucky you were there good luck with the snake

oh my gosh! I cried on that!!! I’m so sorry! I am glad you are taking care of the poor thing!! Good luck!I’ll be checking back on here just to check o her that really just tears me up someone would that. My son wouldn’t he loves snakes... but I wouldn’t have let my son do that either! If he can’t be responsible enough to have the gun he does not’t need it. That’s what we told our son when we got him his that we had better not see a dead animal he killed with it! But of course he loves his snakes he cant stand to see one dead in the road!!!

Dude that is awesome what you did. Not many people even on here could of done that. The fact that it is living is amazing and you did all that you could do which is great! I hope the snake does good and that it heals and everything. If I were you and if you could i would talk to that kid about the snake or get someone to press charges for animal crualty. But first just educate him a little bit so next time this happens he hophily wont hurt the snake.

I agree with that! Also if he’s scared of them, the reason why he did this then maybe help him get over it! And yes you can get over it! I was raised to hate snakes to bescared and I was terrified and my son got me over it and i absolutely love them now! If I had a bigger house and more money to take care of them I would have more than just 2 snakes.... But one day I will...... So maybe educate him and help him see how beatiful they really are!

.........oh my god....i have two garters and i care very much for them. that story is going to make me cry or something. jk. i have also rescued lots of snakes here in massachusettes. i have an uncle who also thinks that the only good snake is a dead snake. one time i went over his house to play with my cousin (who luckaly is a snake lover!!!), and when i got there, i saw a bloody gardening hoe leaning against his garden. i went inside and he walked over to me and said, "hey, i got something for you outside!!!!!" i was scared by then, because i knew he did something i wouldn’t like. i walked outside over by a bird feader, and at my feet, i saw two adult, three foot garters all chopped up and bloody. one of them was gravid, and all the babies were dead and hangin out of her belly. i picked both of them up and i buried them so he wouldn’t mutilate the bodies anymore. after that i always go over there and search for snakes. when i catch them ( i will go through almost anything to get them out of there because there are soooo many snakes at his house) i bring them home for a day, put them in a 20 gallon, and then the next day have my mom drive me to my own personal "snake sanctuary" and relese them. my uncle chased me with a huge dagger trying to kill the snake i caught! luckily, he hasn’t killed any more snakes because i get them out of there as soon as possible. one time i even chased a snake (a huge female, three feet long) through thorns, poison ivy, and then fell into a small, slimy gross pond. muraculously, i caught it and got it away safely. oh yeah, i have never been bit, musked, or crapped on my any of the thousands of snakes i rescued from there. i even kept one named checkers, who was almost killed by their enoying cat. he is still happy, and as long as i keep the snakes out of their yard, so am i!

Wow. Does the vet actually think she has a decent chance? If so, then keep doing what you’re doing.
I can’t see letting this one go, though. If she doesn’t have extremely good pet potential, she’s not going to survive this ordeal and heal anyway. If she does.. that’s a hell of a lot of suffering to go through just for whatever short amount of time she’d survive in the wild before disease or predator or bad weather or new injury or complication from this injury kills her anyway. Better to go through hell and then live easy for the next decade then to go through hell just to get run over afterwards.
P.S. If Pellet Gun Boy has any snide jokes to make about her, just tell him that she’d be dead if the person attacking her wasn’t such a pansy. I’m sure he’ll love that.

My god, their are good people in this world! I had to save a baby ring neck from the rest of my family last summer, they thought it was venomous. I wish people would stop assuming every snake is poisonous, & realize that even the ones that are would rather be left alone than bite us any way! I’m the only one in my family who doesn’t go bt the only good snake is a dead snake. Please, keep us posted, and if possible press charges against that trigger happy snake hater!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, First off, give the kid a break. Maybe he was scared the snake was dangerous or something. Second off, it was a snake, not a pregnant woman. Third off, if i were you and i found a snake that way, I would have put it out of its misery ...shes gunna be in pain and blind the rest of her life so why let her suffer through that...
Just to add to the dying snake stuff...i was at my cousins friends house a couple weekends ago and we went out on his porch (me my cousin and his friend) and we heard a rattle. We assumed it was a rattler so my cousins friend ran inside and told his mom and she told him to grab the shotgun and kill it. We went backoutside, stomped on the deck, it came out, and BANG---his head was 32 yeards from the 4 foot snake with 9 rattles.

Hey dude, never kill a snake, just yesterday me and my uncle were just talking about how i hope i find at least one snake this whole trip and right then i see something move a few feet from my uncles flip-flops and it was a baby eastern rattler. I admired it and my uncle got the shovel and scooted it away from the street. If i wasn’t there, he would’ve killed it. I’m so happy i was here, and just to let you know, the kid wasn’t scared, i don’t mean any offense to you but that kid and you had no right to do that, he wasn’t scared, he hates snakes, so not your forum not your business.Snakes help us more than you think. Honestly, this wasn’t the best place for a snake killer, and hater to speak out. Please stay out of our business.

Gorgy, i hate to tell ya but you can’t press charges on people killing reptiles. Maybe they would press charges if it was an adult red tail boa or green tree python. Wish we were able to press charges or reptile cruelty and abuse to reptiles.
