There is a picture on the first page of the garter snake gallery titled "Is this a Garter" submitted by BENA205. One of my students brought me a snake that looks like it(took it away from his cat) is this a garter snake, it doesn’t look like one, but it’s only 6-7 inches long. Are neonate colors different?

Thanks!

Its not a garter snake, its actually a brown snake. The one you saw was probably an adult. Heres a pic of one:

Thanks Tim,
I wasn’t aware we had brown snakes in east Tennessee. I guess I need to study up more. What do I feed this one while I try to rehab the cat wound?

Thanks!

Hi there - I just found a small snake by our funace room downstairs that looks like this picture - not sure where it came from or how long it’s been in the house - we live west of Chicago and it’s quite cold out....I put it in a plastic tub - what can I do with it - it’s too cold to let it go outside, right?
My boyfriend is convinced that since it looks like a young one, there must be more inside, and that the crickets that I feed my reptiles are "luring" the snakes in.....
