What is my Garter Snake? I will try and describe it, but it was only listed as a Canadian Garter Snake. I went to Petco (which is a bad choice for reptiles) and thought it would be nice to care for one of their snakes and all is well. I just want to know what the heck it is so I’ll explain it’s behavior and coloring. If you were to look at him slithering on the ground, the belly is offwhite then a mixture of green, black, offwhite scales, then a lighter offwhite, then a mixture of green and black scales, then finally a light green/whitishline down it’s back. It eats fish, but it doesn’t eat anything else like earthworms or superworms. Petco claims it lives 15 years+ and it gows betwwen 2-5 ft. long, but who knows. It’s from a breeder that only sells the babies to them. Any additional info would help me take care of my snake.

What is my Garter Snake? That’s not what my Garter snake looks like though. A Queen’s snake? No. It looks more like a Butlers or Northwestern I think, but still much different.

What is my Garter Snake? smiley!! I looked up garter snakes and there it was! It looks a lot like a Plains Garter Snake. Most of the pictures look exactly like him. I went to google images and looked at some pictures and he must be a subspecies or something. Thanks anyway.

What is my Garter Snake? At least the petco people haven’t screwed up even more this time by saying it was a Canadian garter but it was a snake from the other side of the world that isn’t even an actual garter snake! Plains garters are found in some of western Canada but they are definitely not called Canadian garter snakes. Those petco people really piss me off .

What is my Garter Snake? My local Petco sells Chinese Water Dragons and they call them Chinese Dragons...what a lazy typer. I almost want to work there to help the animals, but it’s a crappy job.

What is my Garter Snake? Sorry for the VERY late post, but my garter still is a juvi with incomplete colors right now. He is forming those stripes on his lower jaw. Like a Plains Garter

What is my Garter Snake? Is it bad if I see some skin rubbed up in front of in eyes by his nose? He is about 2 1/2 feet long in a 30 gallon tank. And proper equipment.

What is my Garter Snake? It sounds like he is shedding. They start the shedding process by rubbing the skin the tip of their nose and work it off from there.

What is my Garter Snake? Well it’s by his nostrils and it is constantly like that. I see him flipping out when I feed him, handle him, or just walk by him to my lizards!
