Rosy red minnows and goldfish contain an enzyme called thyminase which breaks down thymine. If fed as a staple, most snakes will eventually develop a vitamin B deficiency.

I’ve never heard of White Clouds. May I ask what they are ? I have also been feeding my Garter rose minnows, gold fish, Guppies. I also offer Crickets, earthworms, which I have seen them eat cut up earthworms.
My Garter ( Hyper is it name ) was about 10-14 inches long and abt 3/8 inches round . I just started feeding Hyper pinkies last week. For One I thought the pinkies looked to big for him to eat. I Have my own breeding Hamsters for my pinkies.
All I did was take Hyper out of his cage put into a different cage with a small handful of hamster bedding on the floor of the cage and put in the pinkie. Hyper crawed around the cage a few times and they started smelling the pinkie and away he went eatting. So I left Hyper in that cage for about 2-3 hrs after the pinkie was gone.
Then I picked him up with both my hands and put him back into his cage and turnes out the light and didnt bother him again untill the next day. Hyper did upchuck his meal eather. But I didnt handle him while his belly was still fat with food.
So about 5 days later, I did the same thing and he eat his pinkie . The reason I took him out of his cage was to see that he had eatten his pinkie and then I didnt have to move things in his cage and scare him.
For his next meal I will put his pinkie in a small bowl into his cage. When I see the pinkie gone the next day I will remove his bowl untill next feeding. So Hyper will know when that bowl is in the cage food is there. Yes I know he can smell it also.
I hope this is some help. Good Luck with you Garter. Bucky

don’t use goldfish because it’s bad for any reptile’s health and can lead to death....eventually. so stop now.

Rosy reds are safe to feed. Goldfish have thiaminese, but rosy reds either don’t or have very low levels of it.

mine eats pinkie rats. The first one I scented with fish but the rest, all they have to do is wriggle and bam. BTW, do you have to wait for the snake to shed to see a difference or improvement in the look of the scales?
