Bumps on my snake (w/pictures)
I have a baby Western ribbon snake. I had him for 3 months now. His housing is perfect and he eats minnows, guppies, and fish scented earthworms. About a month ago I noticed 2 lumps on him. I thought may be it was a couple of guppies turned sideways in his digestive track. But the lumps have not gone away. Even with the lumps, the snake is very active and his appetite has not changed. He continues to eat about 3 times a week.
Does anyone know what the bumps might be? Has anyone seen this before? |

I am 99.999% sure that he has not swallowed any substrate. Because he has always been kept on reptile carpet. Also he is relieving himself regulary. So has anyone ever seen this before? And does anyone else have some educated guesses?? |

Quote: Most likely a kink (a deformity in the ribs) or a broken rib itself. I wouldn’t worry too much, .....
I had never thought of that. But that is a pretty good guess. The way this little snake likes to jump around, flying from fake vine to fake vine, he might have broken a rib or two. |

Quote: my snake has that too
I think I found out what the problem might be. Its very probable that he has water blisters. Caused by spending too much time in its water dish, or in too damp substrate. I keep my snake on dry substrate (reptile carpet) so I removed my snakes large water dish. Once a day I offer him a small cap of water to drink, and then remove it from the cage. He seems to be upset that he can’t go swimming anymore, but he does drink from the bottle cap. So far I have been doing this for 4 days, and his condition is improving. The bumps/lumps are getting smaller. I will continue to do this until the condition is gone, or it stops working. I will keep you all posted on what happens. Thanks for all the responses. |

all of my thamnophis sp have large enough water bowls to swim in and as long as their substrate is dry, there’s no problem some will spend a lot of time in the water, but if it’s a snake I don’t know this about, I will suspect mites - so check for that I did have a couple of wild caught snakes once that developed bumps looking very much like the ones on your snake - about the size and shape of a grain of rice under the skin - and they turned out to be nematodes I lost those snakes because I waited too long before treating please take your snake to the vet from a photo - even a decent one - it’s not possible to diagnose beyond some educated guessing good luck with that |
